Replacing the tile floor in our pool house. We bought the house in the fall of 2019, and enjoyed the pool for our first summer last year. I am sure It would have not been as enjoyable without the help of the great members here at TFP. We had alot of struggles getting a badly neglected pool up and running, and clean after it had been closed and ignored for 2+ years. Anyways back to the subject of this post. We noticed some tiles were loose , but as I said we wanted to enjoy the pool, so we decided to put those repairs off for a while. Well the time is here now for those repairs so it will be ready by opening time this year. I have attached some photos of our progress yesterday, and I will continue to update you guys with the progress. We decided to get rid of the tile, and go with composite decking. So yesterday we picked up the materials, and started the demo process. we had to take up the tiles, then the badly degraded backer-board. The old floor is 17 years old, because we found 2004 stamped on the backer-boards, and plywood. If you look at bottom right corner of the first pic its hard to see but the tiles were sunken down in one spot, and popping loose. We started pulling up tiles as you can see in the second and third pics. after removing the tiles, and backer-board we discovered why the tiles were sinking down in one area. As you see in the forth photo the ply wood was rotten, and so soft i stepped right through it. We are currently trying to get all of the plywood up now so we can start the composite decking install. This is the most time consuming and tiring part so far. The plywood is glued as well as nailed with ring shank nails. Its just me and my wife tackling this project, but we will have it done in no time. Stay tuned....

This time around you need to treat it like a wet area and do waterproofing over the plywood/cement board... I think redgard will work.. It says for outdoor to call them and ask??

Was just about to reply with the Redgard suggestion. This area will always be problem prone as it's out in the elements with changing temperatures creating movement in the floor. Have seen also fiberglass material in wet mesh material being used by overlapping soaked sheets. It's used in bathrooms to completely seal all tile surfaces prior to the tile being laid forming a non pervious sub surface.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but as I said in the original post we are going with composite decking boards just like you would have on a deck that is out in the elements. I have included a couple more pics to show the progress. It does not look like much, but we worked our tales off. We figured out along the way that the plywood was actually screwed down, and you cant see where the screws are to simply back them out. When they glued down the backer-board the glue covered the screws so it is impossible to find them.We are having a heck of a time getting the plywood up. You can see one of the gray decking boards that we will be using to deck the floor with in the photos. We laid it out just to see what it will look like. will keep posting to share the progress.

SO in to watch and :kim: this one on!!!

This will require MANY beers and hot baths!!

Will you also move the bar to get under it?
No not moving the bar. just going to butt the decking boards up to it, and the base trim will cover. yes it has already taken quite a few beers, and we can still access the hot tub for our aching muscles, and oh boy do they ache!!:salut::cheers:

That'll be a very nice upgrade and should last a long time.

Thanks guys!! we have took a few days off from working on the pool house. Had to work our regular jobs, and the weather has sucked. Hope to get more done tomorrow, and Thursday. I will definitely keep you guys up to speed with photos, and details of our progress.

Ok new update. We really were planning to finish the floor this weekend. My 5 year old was sick with a stomach bug on Friday. We spent half a day going to Home Depot on Saturday to get some supplies that we had forgotten, as well as the galvanized metal we will use on the half walls, and under the bar. Then on Sunday both me, and my wife caught the bug my son had, and were out of commission on Sunday. So we are a little behind schedule only working on it in the evenings after work. IMG_1407.jpg

OK so its been a long hard job, but we are getting there. Between Stomach bugs, and thunderstorms, and rainy weather it seems like something does not want us to finish this job. Flooring is down. now we have to paint, and install the trim, and add the galvanized metal. We will have this done in time for pool opening.... Looking forward to enjoying our summer time paradise instead of working on it.

I was just asking if the scope of your project has continued to expand at all. I know you added to it initially and often there are more lightbulbs that go off as the project goes along. And before you know it, the original scope is dwarfed by the end project.

The floor and walls look great!
