Pentair Easy Touch and IntelliFlo 4

Hello all of my fellow TFP'ers. I live in Texas and am now having issues with our pump (or possibly control board) since the winter storm came through. I have a Pentair Easy Touch and IntelliFlo 4 pump. Prior to the storm, I had the schedule set and no issues. The storm came through and I covered all of the equipment and let "Freeze Protection" do it's thing. We lost power around 2AM on the first morning. When I woke up that morning, I shut off the breaker for the pool equipment and left it off until the weather warmed up. I also drained the pump via the two plugs and left the plugs off and re-covered the equipment.

When the weather warmed up, I put the equipment back together and fortunately for us, everything was working as usual. A few days later I noticed that during my schedule run, the pump was off, but the "Filter Pump" button was on at the outdoor control panel. So I hit the "Filter Pump" button to turn the control off. I waited a few seconds and then hit the "Filter Pump" button and the light came on and subsequently the pump also turned on (as it's supposed to). I went back inside and noticed a few minutes later (3-5 minutes) that the pump was no longer running. I went back out and noticed the "Filter Pump" light is still on but the pump is off. This has been the norm ever since. During Schedule or manual operations in "Auto" mode the pump runs for around 3-5 minutes and then turns itself off. There are no Egg Timers set and because I have "Free Nights" with my current electricity provider, I run the pool from 9pm-5am.

Has anyone had any issues similar to this and do you have any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot to eliminate some possibilities? Thanks in advance.

Andy

In SERVICE mode does the pump continuously run normally?

@Jimrahbe can help on the ET side.

Andy,

I am not sure what the problem is, but I would check the following...

1. The pump's display says "Display not active" .. This tells you that the pump is being controlled by the EasyTouch.
2. The EasyTouch is in the "Auto" mode...
3. The EasyTouch has a "Schedule" for the time you want the pump running... As an example .."Pool" is scheduled for 8 am until 8 pm
4. The circuit you want to run has a pump speed assigned.. As an example... The "Pool" Circuit has a speed of say 1200 RPM assigned..

Pushing the "F" button is not how you should normally be turning your pump on or off..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hey Jim,

1. I am controlling the pump via the ET in "Auto Mode". I am unable to control the pump via the ET in "service Mode".
2. ET is set "Auto Mode" when this phenomenon occurs.
3. The schedule is set for the pool and has not changed from previous settings. I can confirm with absolute certainty that the settings are correct.
4. Yes, the circuit assigned to the "Pool" has a pump speed assigned.

I do not normally hit the "F" button to run the pool, only when I troubleshoot.

I believe I have discovered the source of the problem. I removed the cable that runs from my ET to the pump just to check for any damage and the rear shell of the connector came apart (see photos). I would imagine the connection was poor and causing problems with the control of the pump. I'm going to replace this wire bundle and will report back.

Andy,

If you have no display, that makes your pump pretty old. And, without the display you get no feedback or error codes that might indicate what the problem is..

Sorry, but I am out of ideas.. :(

Might be time to give Pentair a call and see what they say.

Hey Jim,

You're right, the equipment itself seems to be 10+ years old but it still works very well. I've been running the pool in Service Mode to at least keep the water clean and circulating. I am beginning to wonder if there is a problem with our Circuit Board in the ET panel. I will update the board once I've resolved the problem. Thanks again for your help.
