Anyone know how to get the in-floor pool cleaner to shut off while still running the filter? I have a Pentair EasyTouch system that won't schedule a duration shorter than the filter run time. I've tried an egg-timer and regular schedule to no avail. Would be nice to use the pool after a few beers without tripping over the heads

Krusty,

I don't fully understand the problem... Most In-floor systems are controlled by a Jandy valve running water through it or not.. How does your automation integrate with your IFCS, is the valve automated?

Show us some pics of your equipment pad.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Krusty,

I wrote a reply and then read your last post..

So your automated valve controls solar or no solar... If so, then I see no way to shut off your IFCS.

Some pools with IFCS do not have any wall returns and all the return water only flows through the pop-ups.. This is just one downside of having an integrated IFCS.. :(

I would assume that if you run your pump at a low RPM, the heads will let return water in, but the heads do not pop up very far or at all.. Is that true in your case??

The faster the pump runs the more they pop up..

Thanks,

Jim R.

My heads pop up even during a freeze protection cycle with minimal flow. Wish I had been around when they plumbed this thing (or had a schematic for the plumbing). Thanks again, Jim

Krusty,

So, the pump on the left in your first pic is just for the water bowls??

If you look to the right and just below your automated valve, there appears to be a check valve.. In the pic the arrow points up, which would be impossible.. Any idea if it is a check valve and what it does? In theory a check valve would prevent water from coming up, so it could be used to keep a waterfall or bowl from draining back and into the pool..

Are you sure you don't have something like this near the pool somewhere...

1. Correct, left pump for water bowls
2. Correct, check valve for solar (flow is up from solar exit)...don't know why that would be impossible???
3. Yes, cleaner hydraulic diverter thing-ama-bob is near pool

Krusty,

My mistake.. I did not think of the solar return.. It makes perfect sense now..

Somehow, water has to get from your equipment pad to the "cleaner diverter" thing.. Does it have any kind of on/off Jandy valve near it??

Anyway, to answer your question, it does not appear to me that your EasyTouch has the ability to control your IFCS.. Other than maybe telling the main pump what speed to run.

If you want to swim without the pop ups, why not just shut the pump off.. You could simply just put the system in the Service mode, or Time out mode..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Has anyone ever heard of of an IFPC with no control or independent shut off valve? Is this standard operating procedure for a pool builder?

Jim,
I want to thank you for your help on the IFPC. Sometimes another set of eyes really helps...even though you had to work off my bad photos and communication. I think I finally understand why the builders did what they did. One thing I can say about my inherited IFPC is that it works well and has plenty of pressure. I just wish I could shut it off without losing my solar heating. Thanks again.

Mine too, but from what I remember it just pauses the rotation... I'll check it tomorrow to be sure. Thanks for the reminder.

Green Krusty - You are correct, raising the lever should pause it in whatever zone it is currently in. If you have wall returns and no bypass around the IFCS multiport valve, then one of your zones is likely the wall returns. Just need to watch it and pause it during that part of the cycle.
