Pool decking retaining wall on sloped yard

Building a gunite pool with 4 feet of pavers all the way around. Our yard slopes about 30" from edge of house(start of pavers) to 10ft from property line on back side(end of pavers). I want to go the cheaper option and just build up grade 4 feet around to have level decking around pool and then slope the 30" out 10 feet to property line(4:1 slope), but I'm worried about erosion. Other option which landscaper is recommending is to get a 30" retaining wall build on back side on edge of pavers, but I don't really want the look of a small wall in the back that I then have to veneer with something.

I'm wondering if since the pavers are going all the way around the pool that the pool itself will hold everything in place, so pavers don't start sliding away from pool. Otherwise, any ideas for sloping the yard to avoid a visible wall, and maybe have some hidden type of reinforcement?
 
You can take a look at our build pictures and get an idea of how we handled our slope. We (pool builder, actually) put the retaining wall above the pool. The pictures are in my signature line.

Keep us posted as to what you decide.

Thank you. We do have a wall on the back side of our pool that supports the deck on that side. However, the ground is then graded up to the deck level. So you don't see the wall at all, except at the corner where the grade changes. The drop off after the back wall was about 3'. It doesn't look that much but it was. And the ground was still dropping at that point, pretty rapidly. So you could do the cheapest wall possible, perhaps poured concrete or concrete block, then fill the space between the wall and pool shell with gravel. That's how ours was done, see the first picture in the link below. The grade is no issue if properly mulched or landscaped. There is very little water flowing over the hill. Only what falls on 4' of deck rolls onto it.

In order to have decking on the back side that has been built up with dirt, you will need many piers (think sonotubes) to support the deck towards the outside. They will work, but I highly recommend the wall method. It's a 100% solution. But resource allocation is always a key factor in pool building so choices are good.

Thanks for responses. I found a contractor for patio/pavilion who says he only does installs by building grade with gravel, warranties pavers for 10 years and lifetime on pavilion. He is also says he must do gravel in pool trenches to warranty work. Quoting 24k to do 800 sq ft Hanover pavers all built on gravel, and he does a poured concrete perimeter about 1ft deep. Seems reasonable and quality work
