We have our Spa coming in the next 4-5 weeks.

We have a proper pad And wiring done.

Upon delivery the company is going to do the finishing connection.

Fill it up with water.

Balance the water - CYA, FC, CH, pH, TA

Now I see some people are removing biofilm using products such as ahh-some. Is this something that everyone should be doing: Fill, balance, biofilm removal, drain, clean, refill?

I live in Canada so I was planning to drain before we hit freezing temps in December.

Congrats on the new tub! Ahh-Sime .... definitely! :goodjob: The amount of film and residue removed, even from showroom models, is unheard of and helps to resolve potential water chemistry problems later. So have some of that on-hand and ready. Also see our How do I use Chlorine in my Spa (or pool)? page. Great details there as well. You've got a great test kit, so other than that I think you'll be set. But let us know if you have any other questions.

Yes, except leave out the balance part. Fill your tub, put in Ahh-some, let it remove all the nasties from production, drain, wipe down, then refill and balance.

Yes I agree with the others, save yourself a lot of possible issues by purging the plumbing in your new tub first. Fill, check your pH add 4-5 ppm liquid chlorine then the surfactant. Follow the directions, pull the filter, run the jets, wipe the water line often then drain, rinse, refill then balance.

From a garden hose: How long should I anticipate it taking to fill the hot tub?

I am just trying to see how much time I am going to have to dedicate to this start up.

When I add water do I need to get the hot tub up to temperate or can I use Ahh-some with tap cold water?

I am going to assume it gets delivered in the afternoon: Hooked up, etc

How much time should I dedicate to the fill?

purge?

drain?

Clean?

refill?

heat + balance?

No need to bring it to temperature for the purge, but you will need the pump and jets to function.
Filling time depends on the output of your hose. My tub is 250 gal and it will take about 15-20 minutes to fill.
You should set aside a couple of hours to fill, purge, drain, refill the tub and begin to balance you water.
If the spa is wired 240v it will be at temp in 8 hours or less. Balancing the water is an ongoing project so test often until you become familiar with your system.

How big is the tub? My garden hose outputs just about 10 gallons per minute, so I can fill our 450 gallon tub in about 45 minutes. I suspect most municipal water will be roughly in this range, but if you're on a well it could be slower.

Why would you do that? Winter is an awesome time to have a hot tub!

Having just recently purged a small tub using Ahh-some, of course, follow the directions. That said, I found it helpful to dissolve the gel in some hot water. It takes a bit of stirring to get it all to dissolve - patience... Also, if you are at all sensitive, keep the stuff off your skin and any mist out of your lungs. I wish I had worn my face mask yesterday while running the jets during the purge. Still coughing a bit today from the irritation - the stuff and any released gunk can get aerosolized by the action of the jets and a bit of a breeze can blow it right at you. Probably no the best thing to inhale. You will likely be amazed at the gunk that is released from even a brand-new tub. I was!
