Jandy Truclear Not Producing Enough Chlorine

Phosphates come up every once in a while. We find in nearly all circumstances, they are not an issue.

If you wish to address phosphates, get your own test kit, K1106, to test for them. If well above 2000 ppb, then address them. Use a SeaKLear or Orenda phosphate remover. The stuff the pool stores sell is mostly water.

I believe the true clear produces 420 g for a 32k gallon pool per 24 hours. That would be 3.18 PPM if running 100% for 24 hours. Your pool is ~ half the size of 32k gallons so the most I would say you would get would be 6.36 PPM if running for 24 hours @ 100%. Running at 80% is ~ 5 PPM though you don't say how long your pump is running ("on all night" and "end of the day" is variant). With a CYA of 90, which is off the chart, your minimum would seem to be 5 PPM which means, at least to me, you should be running the SWG 24 hours per day @ 80% to get to 5 PPM (the minimum).

I could be completely off though.

This makes perfect sense to me. Back when I was trying to figure where to set my SWG and what my output was, someone (I think it was Allen) said that my SWG would be generating 12 PPM if running for 24 hours at 100%. Since my pool is a bit over 9k gallons, this fits well with what is being posted here.

Yes, a few days ago (captured above) I did it and I lost 1 PPM overnight with everything off. Surprisingly this morning (pump and SWCG running 24/7 again) my FC was at 1 PPM (last night at 8pm it was 2 PPM) meaning it dropped by 1 even with everything running. Pretty confusing. Additionally the pool has been entirely unused for the last 2 days.

Are you saying you lost 1 ppm overnight with your SWCG running? Wouldn't that mean you need to SLAM since your SWCG is producing some chlorine(even if we don't know how much) and whatever is growing in your water was able to consume 1 ppm plus whatever your SWCG produced?

Yes, that's what I was getting at. I did the overnight loss and only dropped 1 PPM doing a normal (everything off) test. Then I just did one and it still dropped 1 PPM with everything running. It feels like I need to SLAM now but there seems to be a lot going on. Either way it sounds like SLAMing is the right thing.

I'm new around here too but I have been reading a lot. If I was in your situation I would start checking all the nooks and crannies for anything growing. Check behind lights, under ladder steps, etc. I have seen people post here about chlorine loss and clear water only to find out after a few weeks that they had a green mess growing behind a light.

I wonder if it would help to turn off the SWCG for a week or so and only chlorinate your pool with liquid chlorine using pool math app to track. Then you would know exactly how much chlorine is being added to the pool each day and how much is being lost each day. Maybe someone smarter than me can comment on that.

You know that's a really good idea.

I have a similar issue with Truclear, ph is 7.2 cya is 40 but chlorine is pretty much non existent, did free and CC and both were between .5 and 1. 1 or 2 drops in test. I need to slam to 12 it seems but I don’t get the next steps? 12 for how long? Wait a couple hours see if it’s lower and if so add bleach to 12 again, but how many times should I do this? Thanks
