Isolating spillover spa from the pool

Hi gang,

I am having trouble isolating the heated water to return to spa only without also returning water to the pool. I am still getting heated water partially returning to the pool. Want to isolated return heated water only to the spa. I think maybe the way the polaris pump is plumbed is preventing it from isolating the water return to the spa only.

thanks in advance.

Welcome to TFP.

Show me pics of the valves in pool mode and spa mode.

Post pics that the labels on the pipes are readable.

David,

You have your Intake valve set to shut off what is labeled "Spa Return"... That pipe is actually Spa Drain..

You need to move the valve 180 degrees to shut off the pool and turn on the Spa Drain.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I have labeled all the pipes of my plumbing lines in attached.

1. Pool return - one return outlet at north side of pool and one return outlet (polaris vacuum unit connection) at the south side of the pool.
2. Spa return - four return outlets
3. Where I marked a "A ?" I am not sure what this line is connecting to. It appears to connect from the "Pool north return" valve to the "Pool drain" line
4. So I am having trouble isolating the spa to only heat the spa. I am still getting hot water returning to the outlet (polaris vacuum unit connection) at the south side of the pool as well as the spa. I can control the spa to not have spill over but can't return hot water ONLY back to the spa.

You need to install a valve between the filter outlet and the booster pump inlet. Otherwise you will always have some water going through the polaris. There's probably a threaded Tee not quite visible where I drew the yellow circle. Also turn the valve by spa drain 180 degrees to shut the pool off.

You need to show us where the other end of the suction pipe to the cleaner booster pump connects to and gets its water from.

1. I understand what you said about installing a valve between the filter outlet and the booster pump inlet. You think that hot water from the boiler is returning upstream from the boiler?
2. Any guess what the line labeled "A?" connecting from the "Pool north return" valve to the pool drain is for (it looks like that is how its connected - you can see it in the ground and looks like a flexible PVC tube.
3. The photo of the current configuration is not what I have to try and isolate the spa. I do turn 180 degrees on the "spa drain" valve to shut off the pool drain but still getting hot water returning to the polaris pool return

1) No. But as the spa heats up, some of that hot water is being diverted to the pool through the booster.
2)No. You'll have to experiment
