Hi, New to pools, first post. Just bought house last year.
In the posted pic I am wondering what this piece is and what purpose it serves.
My pool is 16’x32’ Chlorine, with Sand filter, Hayward pump.
The piece in question is inline between pump and filter?
Any more info required please ask and any help greatly appreciated.

G,

I have no idea..

Is there any writing on it anywhere?

My guess would be a pre-filter or maybe one of those "magical" devices that removes metals, but that is a wild guess..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I would remove it whatever it is. You don't need it. Maybe a filter or some sort of "conditioner". Maybe a magnet device. Maybe a copper/silver ion cartridge.

Try a magnet to see if it's attracted to the device.

It might be adding copper or silver to the pool.

It might be restricting the water flow.

I would remove it.

Also, check for a seal leak on the pump by looking under the motor and towards the front of the pump with a flashlight.

It's a specific angle from the back and down low.
