Visible algae

Good luck on your SLAM. FYI your FC posted above is below the minimum for your CYA (round up to 60). Try to keep it in the the recommended range of 7-9, after you completely finish the SLAM at FC of 24.

Update with a dumb question. I’m in the middle of slam. Tested this At 11 am (est) and FC was 24. Right where I’m supposed to be. Tested just now 7pm and and FC is 13. Do I get FC back to 24 until it completely clears? What could be dating chroline up? CC 0

Raise your FC back to SLAM level. You should be doing that several times per day.

Organics are consuming your chlorine. Keep following the SLAM Process

Can I suggest one simple thing to add to the slam process for dummies like me. Make sure you have plenty of R0871 so you can complete the process. I ran out because of having to use a high amount due to CYA levels . Local does not carry. Feeling dumb. Lol

It is dead algae. Means you are still killing algae. You can vac to waste but I suspect it will poof away and be very hard to capture.

Your sand filter should catch it. Be sure you are only back washing when the filter pressure rises by 25% over clean pressure.

Keep adding chlorine. If you cannot test, add every day what you have added on average the last couple days.

Thanks . But it’s OK to vacuum that up during the process correct? I’m out of a job right now but I’d like to give a little money to support this site. Is that the best way to help
Yes, you should be vacuuming and brushing as often as you can. It will help kill anything on the walls and floors.

Update , still on going slam. I had a delay with testing. Water very clear and the only thing let on a small part of pool floor is attached . Most light her than before (see picture above) i Assume that’s dead algae but whiter due to large amounts of shock . Thoughts? Going to do OCLT tonight

Yes, that looks like dead algae. I would keep up the SLAM, scrub out everything you can (light niches, skimmer throats, steps & ladders, etc.) and not bother with the OCLT until you stop seeing that at all.

Thanks . Sorry for being a pest but I’ve put 30 plus gallons of bleach over last 6 days. Pool clear but seems to still being using up chrloine. Checked Cya and it’s down to 40. as you stated above i guess should continue with the process until the stuff stops showing up on bottom. Just trying to make sure this does not seem abnormal for the amounts of bleach I have added
