Here is a picture of my setup, looks like the best place to install is the long horizontal pipe with the hose bib attached. I’m not even sure why that is there, I’ve never used it. Any recommendations on which one I should buy?

The SWCG is to be the last item before the pool water returns to the pool. So no, that space is not good as the pool water enters the filter from there.

It appears you will have a major pad re-design to install a SWCG.

Let's see what some other members have to say.

Looks like you might need to reposition the filter - to get some distance between the 3way valve and discharge port on the filter. Appears there is no space between the discharge and 3-way valve.

Maybe swivel the filter 90 degrees anti-clockwise and move it to the left then that should give you room to fit the SWG in there.

I agree with @Flying Tivo , turn the filter 90 Degrees. The SWG will need to be the last device before the pool returns. So After the filter. And make sure you follow the SWG manufactures guidelines for the amount to space they need before and after the generator. OR You can also mount it vertically in some fashion. A lot of SWGs can be mounted that way.....

As to what type... just make sure you get one rated for twice the capacity of your pool as I am sure you have read here already. The brand will depend on a few things... like if you plan on adding automation, get one that works with your automation system. that sort of stuff.

Hi S_dubb. I have a similar issue I am trying to figure out as well and the only conclusion I have come up with is what @Flying Tivo and @mguzzy are saying. I had to re-pipe from my filter to go back about a foot and loop around to give me at least the 2 feet I needed. With how tight yours is it looks like your only options is turning your filter and re-piping it.

When you re-pipe you'll have unions that are included with the swg. That'll help your installation a lot. What's the extra black device on your pump suction upstream of your suction basket on the pump?

I also agree with rotating the filter 90° clockwise. In doing so, you're going to increase total head psi off the pump due to the additional 90's (reduced PSI at filter) which will ultimately reduce circulation rate, but it should be minimal and there's just really no other option if you want to upgrade to a SWG. This loss in efficiency will be more than compensated with the added efficiency of a SWG.
