Easy Touch 4 valves not working for spa

I just added a spa to my pool and two valves to divert the water. I am struggling to get the valves to work through easy touch though, I can manually switch them and they work so they are definitely getting power. I am using a Pentair 520712 board with version 2.100 firmware.

Things I've tried: when I go through diagnostics it moves one of the valves a little bit, then back to the starting position, the 2nd valve doesn't seem to move at all (but it's in a tough to see location so maybe it does move slightly). Would diagnostics move the valves all the way back and forth? I have them plugged into Valve A intake and return ports, and here are my settings. Am I missing something? Is there some way I can do a quick test that should just move the valves? When I press Spa I see the pump speed increases but the valves don't budge.

Hmmm will a spa work with my motherboard or do I need to upgrade to a different one? I believe mine is with a P which seems to be single body, anyone know if that could be the issue? Also, what would be the correct replacement to get if that's the issue, would it be 520659?

Yes, that sounds like your problem and the 520659 UOC Motherboard With 4 Aux (Pool & Spa) is what you need.

oops, Allen beat me to the first question! ;) You could also use a 520657 (8 aux) pool/spa board. Question: do you have a "lite" system (only has 4 aux buttons on the gray bezel)?

FWIW - I believe you get that valve "twitch" in the diagnostic test because it's rapidly exercising the relays for the valves... I've never seen it fully rotate a valve.

Ah ok thanks! Ah I was debating going with the 8 aux, any advantages to that? I thought my pool company may have said that I need 1 more for my heat pump but that may not be true (they were going to send this board in for repair...I do not trust that they know what they are doing). My equipment right now: variable speed pump, IC40 cell, 2 actuators, gas heater, Jandy heat pump (why they mixed in Jandy I don't know). The gas heater is brand new so not programmed to play nice with the heat pump yet, I believe they said something about the heat pump being Jandy meant they had to use more ports than otherwise or something, I don't remember because it was a while ago. Anyway would love your thoughts on which board to go with!

We need to understand the way your ET is wired now. We need to know what is using the 4 high voltage relays now. You can post a pic showing the internal wiring of the ET.

If your plan to have both a gas heater and a heat pump? The gas heater should not be using a high voltage relay. The heater should be controlled by the automation with fireman's switch.

How do you expect the gas heater and heat pump to work with the ET?

Now that I see your ET panel my guess is you have one relay used for the pump, another relay used for the booster pump. and a third relay used for your lights. Do you have more than one set of lights being controlled that might use the fourth relay?

If you had a Pentair MasterTemp gas heater and a Pentair UltraTemp Heat Pump the ET may be able to control both. They are plumbed in line and hooked up to the IntelliCenter via RS-485 cable. I am assuming the ET can do the same as the IntelliCenter but that should be verified. In the programming you have a choice of heaters for your spa and/or pool.

The automation is supposed to regulate temperature via the heat pump 1st - if it can not maintain temp it reverts to the gas heater. But after that it does not go back to the heat pump to maintain. You have to switch it manually.

I don't think the ET will work this way with a Jandy Heat Pump and gas heater.

Ah actually this company removed the booster pump so now I am switching to a robotic cleaner, although I'm not positive how I'm feeling about that (the booster is now hooked to the gas heater but not re-labelled). Yes my plan was to keep both heaters, I already had the heat pump so I just added a gas heater for the spa and figured I could use the gas to heat it up and pump to keep it hot. Not positive how that would work in terms of control though, I guess ideally the heat pump would only kick in if it's warm outside. So if I understand what you're saying it sounds like running the heat pump will be more of a manual process for me is that right?

You are asking for advice without giving us a clear picture of what you have, what you are doing, and how you intend to operate it. Please put all the details of your pool and equipment in your signature - Create Your Signature - Further Reading

A gas heater controlled by an ET is not connected to a high voltage relay. The ET cycles the heater using the fireman’s switch.

And I don’t know how your HP is connected or controlled by the ET.

Tell us the complete story and history of how you got to where you are and what you are trying to accomplish.
