Rookie of the day- Hello!

I'm loving this forum, the school and info are excellent resources.
My question is regarding balance of chemicals. Which comes first, how long do I wait to test and add others, I don't want to play the over/under game all summer.
Also HOW are they added, dilute first and dump, add straight to pool, sprinkle gently, pour into strainer??
I could really use your help right now before I have to hire a pool-guy. ?
Thanks mucho! I'm so happy to have found you!
High desert of SoCal, all day sun 100°F, and we have high calcium hard water.
Water is 78°F, 0.0FC, 7.8pH, 120TA, 1600CH, 0CYA.
Where do I start?

Tori,

Welcome aboard! You've found the perfect place. We have real, highly qualified volunteer experts on everything related to pool care, all here just to help people like you learn and do TFP pool care. We sell absolutely nothing so our advice is absolutely never conflicted. The only thing you need to get to make this work is a test kit. We have a couple of them recommended in Pool School. Just figure out which one you want to start with and then do what Marty advises. I'm not sure how many people he's gotten started but it must be thousands! They all transition to gorgeous TFP pool bliss very quickly!

Again, welcome aboard and good luck!

Chris

Welcome to the forum!
Recommended Pool Chemicals - Trouble Free Pool discusses much of what you ask.
What test kit are using for your water chemistry data? And I doubt your CYA is 0 is you are using Trichlor as your signature states.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry and consider reviewing the entire Pool School eBook.
Test kit is HTH 6-way. CYA test never got cloudy. I was able to see the black dot always. I used 1 packet HTH Super Shock last Sunday, added two 3" trichlor tabs to the floater on Monday.
I will go back to school. ?

You will want to get a FAS-DPD test for FC. Or just a full proper test kit.

I see this is a new fill. You need to add CYA to get to 30 ppm. Then use liquid chlorine every day to maintain FC based on the FC/CYA Levels

I have unscented Walmart liquid bleach, doesn't say what strength, it's says "concentrated" and it's the thicker no-splash kind. Will this work?
