Algae will not go away

Help after opening my 18 round above ground pool. I've shocked x3 with a powder formula from Walmart. Yesterday treated with algecide and a 3 in one shock. The algae will still not brush off the sides or places on the bottom. The water is crystal clear though. I added a stabilizer yesterday along with a gallon on bleach. Just tried brushing and it still will not come off. I had my husband test yesterday.
Before stabilizer ph 7 and chlorine were high. Later in the afternoon he retested and ph was within range according to our test kit chart. Chlorine was not a shock so we added the stabilizer and a gallon of bleach overnight. We also added about half the depth with new water. About 2 wks ago on opening. TIA

Welcome to TFP! Unfortunately however, all of the chemicals and things you've tried before were probably a waste of money. Once you have algae, a simple "shock" won't do it, and algaecides do not kill algae. You'll want to perform a TFP SLAM Process, but to do so means having the proper test kit at home so you can test FC over 10 ppm. I recommend the TF-100 (link below in my signature), but the Taylor K-2006C will suffice as well. See Test Kits Compared for more info.

Also take a moment to review our ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry and make sure to update your signature with all of your pool and equipment info.

I have the Taylor k-2006C kit
Having problems keeping FC at shock level and have been slaming every night for 2 wks. It is mustard algae. Ph, alkalinity, CYA and CC are in balance. I went with the borax and MA yesterday. I'm I just going to have to get in a scrub the sides? I haven't vaccumed in 2 days
Didn't want to lose product. Is there anything else I should do or add?

You say "slaming every night" - SLAM Process means maintaining the FC at the shock level based on your CYA using the FC/CYA Levels. You need to test your FC and add liquid chlorine to reach shock level FC every few hours. At a minimum 3-4 times per day.

If you populate your PoolMath app with your test results and chemical additions it will be available to us to guide you as you are sharing your Poolmath data.

Maintain the Shock Level -- which at 60ppm CYA is 24 ppm FC. Keep testing every few hours and add liquid chlorine to raise back to 24 ppm FC.

Thank you
We took all parts off inside the pool and pump. Soaking in bleach and detergent.
FYI - it's a sand filter at a flow rate 1800 gph.

Will proceed in the am.
Thanks for your help.

Hello and Welcome to TFP!!

Reassemble and run your pump/filter 24/7 during the SLAM process. The chlorinated water in the pool will sanitize the pump and filter as they run. The pump will help keep the water mixed up.
While in the SLAM process, you only need to test for FC and CC. you can ignore the other tests for now.

Got it....thx

Do you think this is stain or algae? I've noticed some rust in ladder and vaccum clamp. Also had oak leaves before it was closed last fall. Pool was not maintained last year by me. So not sure what shape it was in.

I'd proceed with the assumption of algae. Continue to maintain FC at SLAM levels as much as possible.

If you want to rule out metal stains, you can read the article on Stains.
Ok I've been slamming for over 2 wks. Brushing and vaccuming. I still have mustard algae. What's going on?

PH 8.4

FC 22

CYA 30

TA 60

What can I do to kill this stuff? Added baking soda to bring down PH and 20 oz of MA. I have no way to test the borates.
