New Homeowner - 1st Time Pool owner!

The pump issue was indeed the filter. I installed the one I ordered today and it ran great for like 4 hours began with the pressure at 5 and when it started acting funny the gauge was around 25 4 hours later. I’m cleaning it out and letting the other soak. They aren’t terribly expensive so I ordered two more!

The drop in the FC tells you the chlorine is doing it's job! Keep it up!!

Definitely was a bit more bluer today. Filter ran longer without me having to swap it out today also.

In the deep end I feel like there may be some large items but I can’t seem to grab them. I for one know that it’s at least a vacuum head (I lost it) and a leaf eater bag (also lost by me). But it’s almost as if there may be a branch or something or maybe it’s just those two items I keep pushing around lol.

Do you have a main drain? If so that other hole could be for it. The thing you can move is the diverter so you control how much pull the skimmer and main drain has.

Kim:kim:

I wish I knew lol! I’m guessing I do but I can’t see the bottom yet. The reason I lean towards yes is because sometimes in the pump basket I’ll find a leaf or two but I’d have checked the skimmer and recently skimmed the pool so this lead sort of would come out of no where lol.

More progress today! Time to go out brush vacuum and test!!! Today, don’t mind the shed it’s getting demo’d!

That is really heading to blue now!!! OH yeah!!

Be careful just in case it is a branch that might mess up your liner.

Did you say DEMO??? I LOVE to tear things up..........just ask my husband  LOL

Kim:kim:
Would have loved to had your company when we bought the place! Two 30 yard dumpsters from gutting and remodeling the interior entirely lol.

Am just now getting to the exterior of the house so I figured I’d start with what I’d deem the most difficult first (the pool) lol.

So soaking the filters really does wonders. The one “old filter” I did it too works just as good as the new one. But the other two that I haven’t done don’t filter well what so ever. So I’m going to get these cleaned out and use them as back up. My other new filters came today.

FC: 12.5
CC: 0.5
CYA: 40

Bumped up FC: 16ppm.

I’m assuming my CYA has gone up from The brushing since sometimes I’d come across like a small clump of stabilizer from like 4 days ago lol.

Ahhh so we need to tell you how to add CYA.........we say put it in a sock (yeah like you wear) or stockings. Either hang it off a broom handle right in front of the return or put it in the skimmer (leaving the pump running until it is all dissolved) make sure to not block the water flow.

Our house was a foreclosure but I did not get to demo anything :( Did do a L.O.T. of cleaning though!! Oh and painting and fixing and/or finishing things done before we got it. It was all stuff we could do on our own so we SCORED big time on it!!

Just think how smart it was to start on the pool. Once you get it done you can jump into it when you get hot from working on the other projects!!! I love to jump into the pool while mowing the 6.5 acres when I get hot! Cool off then jump back on in my soaking wet clothes LOL

Ah yes I did that but it was pre my filter issue. So the socks ended up becoming like a bean bag sort of thing lol.

That’s always a good feeling to fix something up and make it your own. Hence the reason I’m fighting with the pool haha. I can’t wait until I get to jump into pool hopefully sooner rather than later. !

Got ya! Yeah a working filter to move the water does tend to help. Sorry about that!!

Kim:kim:
Omg I ordered an aqua comb and it’s so great. I had a filter sitting in a solution overnight and cleaned it with an aqua comb and the filter pressure was the same as a brand new one!!!

I added a bit of chlorine before I went out today while it was pouring so I didn’t get a chance to test it. I will see how it holds overnight!
------------------------------------------

Test Results 05-12-2019 @ 08:53 PM

------------------------------------------

Free Chlorine: 19.0

pH: 7.4

Total Alkalinity: 50

CYA: 40

Glad you found something to help clean. I had forgotten about those. Between the soaking and comb I bet that filter is working great again! Well done!!

I can't wait to see what the morning FC is!! How does the water look?

Kim:kim:

FC: 17.5

It’s definitely bluer than yesterday but it has a hazy mess to it this morning.

FC dropped by 1.5.

I’m not sure if it matters but we’ve had showers off and on pretty much all week. It’s also been cloudy the last 5 days.

Yeah the comb helps a ton it cleans them so thorough!
