Looking for New Sand Filter and Pump

Hi Everyone,

Really looking forward to spring and I am in the market for a new filter and pump.

I currently have the Intex 18x9x52 AGP with the 1200 GPH sand filter and pump (28643EG). It works fine but needs more power to vacuum better for one. I tend to get a lot of fine dirt in the bottom and it drives me crazy. This one has the 1/4HP pump.

I am looking at upgrading to either the 3000 GPH (28651EG) or the new 3000 GPH (26651EG) with digital timer. I haven’t seen any reviews on the new one yet so not sure. These both have the 3/4HP Pump.

Will I see a noticeable difference between what I have currently to one of the new ones?

Another question I have is what everyone’s time schedule is for their filters/pumps run time each day. I have tried 4, 6 and 8 hours and even 24 hours but I just don’t think my current pump is strong enough.

I am also running a Hayward through the wall skimmer and Intex SWG.

All Intex pluming for now as well.

Most of the time I run on low speed (~25 GPM). A pump really doesn't need to be strong for just circulation. Currently I am running about 4 hours per day all on low speed. In the summer, a bit longer for solar heating.

Pump Run Time

Also, for the vacuuming, have you thought about a robot instead. That will probably do a much better job, is very easy to use and is independent of the pump.

Everything I am reading about robotic cleaners is that they require a pump with a minimum of 1600 GPH and up. Even the Intex one says 1600-3000 GPH.

My current pump is only rated for 1200 GPH and was mainly the reason I was looking to upgrade the pump. It just doesn’t seem to have enough to do much.

Thanks!

Robot cleaners do not use your pump. They are powered by an electrical umbilical.

Search Dolphin or Maytronics in Google.
