CYA = 0, Pool Greener than grass

The pH test is not valid when the FC is greater than 10 ppm

Hold on. With a cya of only 30 PPM, your FC is already above shock level and you should not raise it to double that's for sure

The good news is I got sucked into some other posts and have not done anything other than test this morning. However, I am confused by your comment regarding shock level. Should I be targeting 24 or some other value? To be sure we're on the same page, the pool is SWG.

Look at the [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]. Find 30ppm and the corresponding shock level.

It does not matter if it's an swg pool or not at this point. The shock levels are only a function of your CYA.

6/5 Update, 9PM

Pool is still cloudy, bluish hue. No longer seeing spots on the walls along the water surface (these were the last to go).

FC drops about 50% during the day, very little overnight.

Day #8 in the books. 6/7, 6:30PM

FC 4. Was 12 at 7:30AM

I should have measured pH while FC was down, but didn't think about it before adding 1.5 ga of CL. 1.5 should put me back at 12. PoolMath hasn't been wrong in this regard. FC has been very steady overnight, so will check pH & CYA before adding more CL tomorrow evening. Water was slightly clearer today, could still make out brush 2.5-3.0 ft under water. Weekends are the worst during SLAM; it's like watching grass grow when waiting for the water to clear.

Trying again. Deleted old attachments to make room.

Day 10, 9AM

pH 7.2
FC 10
cc .5

Added 1/2 ga of 10% CL, water is cloudy. No doubt it will be sunny day here today, so will test FC more frequently as I should be home most of the day.

Day 10, 11:30AM

Performed test twice to verify readings:

FC 4-5
cc 1.0-1.5

Is this FC loss why progress is minimal during the week? Do I need to be boosting chlorine throughout the day over the weekends?

When you are in the SLAM process you need to test and dose back to SLAM level as often as possible. If you are trying to do this once a day, the SLAM could last all summer.

During a SLAM, you need to boost FC to SLAM level multiple times a day. Every two hours, if you can manage.

Impossible during the week, but I'll take care of this weekend.

No worries, hard during the work week I know! Just hit it hard this weekend, and on work days do as soon as you get up, right before leaving from work, right when you get home, and two hour intervals until bedtime.

Is there anyone that could add liquid chlorine for you during the day?

The TFP "method" definitely understands people have lives away from their pools ;)

The more frequently you can add LC, the quicker the pool will pass SLAM Process (Overnight Chlorine Loss Test)

The most important thing is consistency! Frequency is a close second

Thanks everyone. I tested 5 times throughout the day yesterday. Surprisingly, there was a big drop of the FC from 9:30 to 11:30 A.M, but hourly readings at 2:30 & 3:30 CL stayed at 12+. At 4:30 FC = 10, CC = .5. Then at 7:30 FC was 8, and CC 1. At 11PM, FC was 14, so I expected FC would be at least 10 this morning. As of 8AM today:

FC 5
CC 2
CYA 30

CC seems to change less frequently than FC usually in a range of .5 to 1.5, the 2 this morning was unexpected. Added LQ of 1.255 ga per PoolMath. Some dark spots visible on the wall. I thought they had gone, but maybe that was due to the cloudiness? Will keep an eye on it.

If 12 is the Shock Level with CYA of 30, why not keep it slightly higher than 12 to provide buffer? This is what I did since I knew we were going out this evening and wasn't sure of return time.

CC are always being created as the chlorine breaks stuff down. The CC are further broken down by the chlorine and the Sun. Since overnight there is no sun to break down the CC it does not surprise me that you saw the largest number after overnight.
