Help! Getting ready to replumb my system....

I'm installing a new heater and a new pump/motor (vs). I've got everything I need but couplings going in and out of the filter. It seems like the couplings are 2" but the threads are larger than the heaters fittings. I have a standard Raypac and the couplings are smaller than the couplings on the filter. The filter has the flush unit and I cannot use it as it leaked awhile back and I used an irreversible method of stopping the leak. I was not planning on using the flush apparatus anyways but cannot seem to find the right couplings the replace it. I took measurements and the ports are bigger than the heaters ports (coupling wise). Can anyone point me to the right fittings? Otherwise I will just do another flush unit. Hoping to do this this week while I'm out of work, Amazon prime?

Yeah, "backflush valve" is what I want to ditch and just find the right size couplings.

Ok, now it's getting confusing. I don't see how a backwash valve affects the back flow of DE back into the pump and pool. It's a valve to flush water out of the filter. When not engaged, isn't it just plumbing bringing water into the filter and out of the filter? Also if you look at the pic again, you will see a backflow valve. I was told by a pool guy that it was not necessary for it to be there. But now that I'm confused, is it?

The two bulkhead unions in the above post does mention that they are used for when not using a backwash valve.

If in fact not having a backflush valve system attached to the filter does affect negative flowback of DE, then I have no problem putting in a new one.

Well I have never seen or been exposed to a vertical grid without a valve, I have replaced or repaired 100s of failed valves which let DE blow back to the pool.

Incidentally, the unions in the link are for a cartridge filter which requires no valve, though the proprietary thread is the same as your DE tank or “daisy chaining” vertical grid tanks.

So.. grab yourself a valve, be one & done.

Btw - where do you live? It’s four degrees in my backyard today.

San Diego 40's at night and 70 todays high. I'll trust you on your experience and get a replacement valve. I do not want to have to go back and redo it again. The one I have looks makeshift, but I may be wrong. You think Amazon has the valve? I'll take an accurate measurement on the inlet and outlet of the filter to make sure it has not been tampered with.

Oh, and what is your opinion on that back FLOW valve in the pic? Obviously it is flowing away from the filter and flows to the heater.

Middletown — America’s Cup was quite the Sunday spot ( pre wife , kids , mortgage, business, grey hair etc)

I saw the photos, what’s hanging you up? Anything in particular you want to clean up?

Is your spa above pool level? I ask because of the looped suction & return risers.

The spa is part of the pool, so no, it is not above the pool. So I should ditch back flow valve. What is hanging me up is finding the right backflow valve that attaches to the filter.
