The price of chlorine tabs has quadrupled this summer in my area. Yes, I know trichlor is bad. But what's going on with the pricing?

If this is mis-posted, please excuse. Couldn't find a pertinent forum. Using PPP, I find that it ends up clogging my cartridge filter before dissolving. Is there a way to keep it from making its way to the filter? Maybe a fine mesh canister or bag? Anyone else had this problem? Thanks.
