    Amonia and DMH

Question:Can DMH be transformed to ammonia in a bromine pool?

    I use bromine

I use brom for my pool. I use bromine tablets when I am not at summer house and sodium hypochlorite (bleach) to bring up the active brom to 10ppm from time to time. It is possible to use sodium monopersulfate (oxischock) as well. If you have used only tablets until now I strongly recommend to...

    Puck without CYA?

Chlorine binds to the OH group to form the hypochlorous acid.

    Puck without CYA?

Dimethyl hydantoin (DMH) is also binding chlorine, but I do not know if dichlor diethyl hydantoin is available on the market. DMH is mostly used as a bromine carrier, and the pucks are very slowly dissolved in water.

    Bromine sanitation

From the Chlorine-CYA chart one can see that 0.11 FC with 0 CYA has the same effect like 1.2 Chlorine with 10ppm CYA and like 2.4 ppm Chlorine with 20 ppm CYA, etc. It can be concluded that if one has 20ppm CYA only 0.11ppm is actually active chlorine and the rest is bound to CYA making just a...

    Bromine sanitation

If the reccomended concentration of active chlorine for a rezidential pool is arround 0.1 ppm why the reccomended level of bromine are 2-4 ppm and not 0.2 ppm?

Can I treat mustard algae with CYA at 120 without lightening liner?

If you do not want to drain 50% of water now you can add 7 oz of sodium bromide or 10 tablets of bromine. That will make your pool a bromine pool for a while. CYA will be not relevant this year. Just add bleach and keep pH in range. In spring you will treat your pool as you would normally would.

Great readings but always something collecting on the bottom

The pores of the bricks and the inside part of the ladder are small vlomes of 0 flow, therefore if clorine is low there it will remain low and algae can grow. As soon as the water gets some criculation, algae is getting killed.

a friend is about to close pool for season. is it worth SLAMing or wait for spring ?

If he is willing to accept some help, I think that you can measure the CYA for him. If the pool water has a big CYA concentration, than is better to clean the pool in spring time since the pool has to be drained anyway. If CYA is manageable, than one should consider SLAMing now. Just my humble...

Since it shouldn't be algae, what is it?

This was most likely an algae attack. I think that the primary cause for this attack was poor water flow close to the bottom of the pool. Since you do not have a main drain (?) you can redirect down a return jet and/or brush the bottom of the pool. This will mix the water layers and prevent...

    Want to Make Pool Shallow

    Remove the "excess" water.

Initial results are in, and they're not good.

I would add 10 ounces of sodium bromide to this pool. This will make it a bromine pool. Bromine does not bind to cya and will snitize the water. You will have to activate daily the bromine with bleach, and a weekly shock with mps or chlorine. The bromine is sensitive to UVB, but this late in the...

Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

I am using bromine as alternative sanitizer if you do not like the chlorine. I use it togather with an oversized UV lamp. Bromine does not smell like chloramines, but it has its own smell when the dome cover is in place. Many people think that a UV lamp is a waste of money, but I think that it...

Using sodium bromide along with chlorine

Bromine is easy to protect therefore it is not expensive to have a pool sanitized with bromine. Any pool cover will reduce the UVB and prevent bromine destruction. It is not a compex/difficut job to have a swimming pool sanitized with bromine: JUST ADD BLEACH. So, for a private person it is very...
