SLAM with solar heater panels - clear pool, high chlorine consumption

Ran the pump/solar all night and my test results this morning were 1.5ppm higher than last night, so I may have tested too soon after adding another gallon 8:30pm last night: 20.5 (added last gallon at 7:30pm) 6:30am this morning: 22.0 (then added another gallon and left for the day) 5:30pm this...

SLAM with solar heater panels - clear pool, high chlorine consumption

Thanks I'm going for it, may as well pull the band aid. I don't want the algae in the solar panels to have the FC fall below my SLAM level while I'm sleeping so added another gallon and will will re-test tonight to compare to the morning.

SLAM with solar heater panels - clear pool, high chlorine consumption

Howdy, I posted last spring about the best way to re-start my solar heater for the season, as I usually get a bad yellow algae outbreak after doing so. Thanks to the pre-SLAMing tip I thought I nailed it this year, however although the pool is crystal clear, I've had two filter cleans and am...

Re-starting rooftop solar and avoiding algae

Forgot to say thanks for this tip, for some reason never saw your link to the tee. Just ordered a pair since I am battling crazy high chlorine consumtion after restarting my solar again this year. Want to drain better this coming off-season so will get these on.

Re-starting rooftop solar and avoiding algae

Ah, thanks, no I don't have any hose bibs. Are those installed on the panels themselves or on the PVC pipe leading to and from them?

Re-starting rooftop solar and avoiding algae

Actually I only have one valve, maybe thats my problem. I have a diverter valve near the filter that either goes to the roof or not. The return line has a check valve so water doesn't go up the return. There is a relief valve at the top that lets air in when the system is off. To drain, I put...

Re-starting rooftop solar and avoiding algae

Great responses, thanks. @Rocket J Squirrel when I shut down of the season I do open the valve and let it drain into the pool, although I'm not that patient and probably close the valve before I should. At that the end of this season I will perform a more thourough drain. @cowboycasey thanks...

Re-starting rooftop solar and avoiding algae

Hi, we are in southern california, we don't close our pool for the winter, but effectively stop using it from November until March as the solar can't keep the temp above 80 degrees. Every year in the spring I turn the valve to start up our roof-top solar, patch any leaks and start to get it...

Pentair Warrior SE vs. Dolphin S200

Got my SI today this is my first pool cleaner of any kind and I am stoked on so much about it. Very easy to use and seems to crank through the pool without a lot of issue. Did struggle on the deep end walls, there are some curves in there that must have thrown it off. Also got hung up on our...

Pentair Warrior SE vs. Dolphin S200

Is the rebate good for this price or is the price too low?

Pentair Warrior SE vs. Dolphin S200

I am also considering the Warrior SI vs the Warrior SE from Marina Pool and Spa. I think the only difference is a Bluetooth remote and a "Quick Clean" option on the SI which runs $50 more than the SE. Anyone used these remotes or have a non-remote version and wish you had a remote? I've never...

Solar Hot Water Panels - Installation Best Practice For Waterproof Roof

Thanks, that's all I've ever heard to, so not sure what roof guy was talking about as I can't dig up any info in any search. Best I can assume is he wants be to slide some flat flashing between the shingles so if the seal breaks down water will go down the flashing.

Solar Hot Water Panels - Installation Best Practice For Waterproof Roof

Installed my solar panels last spring, I used clips with screws that went through the shingles and into the OSB with some black goo stuff to waterproof. We needed a new roof this winter which was unrelated to my solar panel install, but the roofing estimators noted my install job probably was...

Anyone Ever Lower CYA Slowly Via Irrigation?

I kind of stopped checking my CYA once I got to 50, and now after a few months of keeping the pool very warm and a lot of kids splashing about, I just checked it this weekend and my CYA was near zero. I can't believe I actually have to add CYA after working so hard to lower it. My R-0013 is...

Help diagnose DE coming from main drain with pump off

So is the next thing to de-bug the Multiport? Should I replace the seals including the spider gasket? Is should I use a bubble leak detector solution on more seals? Thanks.
