The repair shop says I need a new motor and it will cost $475. Debating on whether I should just buy a new vacuum at this point.

I went through this guide before posting. The drive pin looks OK and it does roll back and forth as it cycles up. It only stops once the impeller kicks on and won't stop. I emailed Hayward over the weekend. We'll see if they get back to me.

Make sure your outlet is OK. I had a GFI outlet that caused some odd behavior like this when it would get wet from the rain. Resetting the outlet typically fixed the problem until I replaced it.
