DE vs. Sand Filter - Which One??

Another DE "con" (the one that pursuaded me to against purchasing) is in some municipalities, it has special disposal regulations. THere aren't any regulations currently but, living in a very populous area, that could very well change.

Vaccumming clouds pool with dirt being vaccummed

Phess, I also replied to your PM but thought I'd put the info here in case anyone was interested. I purchased the venturi vacuum attachment at Home Depot a couple years ago but I am unable to find the same one online to direct you to it. I did however find this one that is somewhat similar...

Something is wrong w/sand filter... pump too large?

JasonLion, thanks for the reply. Would you recommend I purchase a larger filter or a smaller, more efficient pump? I am concerned about operating cost....electricity is not cheap in Jersey. But....something really strange is going on. The sand was changed and within a couple hours the pool...

Something is wrong w/sand filter... pump too large?

Pool was opened 4 days ago with a lovely green color due to a break in our pool cover. The algae has since died (FC has been holding at 16 w/CYA at 40ppm for a few days) but b/c I noticed very large particles suspended in the pool water in the pool water after 4 straight days of 24/7 filtering...

Vaccumming clouds pool with dirt being vaccummed

I've had a very similar problem since our pool was installed 2 years ago and thru experience have found that the debris I am dealing with (not sure if it is dead algae, pollen, or some other sediment) will not filter out thru my sand filter. To eliminate it completely I used to have to vacuum to...

Emptying the basket in the pump housing question

When we purchased our AG pool we were given something called an Aquador to cover the skimmer plate inside the pool. We have to use it whenever we need to open the pump basket lid to stop the flow of water into the pump b/c there no other valves to close between the skimmer and pump. I don't...

safe FC and CC levels for swimming?

Thank you so much for the info, Buggs and Dave. Good to know we have some leeway in the numbers for swimming. I was beginning to think that Bacquacil had one advantage over bleach b/c we had to stay out of the pool. Guess not. :P

safe FC and CC levels for swimming?

Wow. I didn't expect an answer so quickly. Thx! The sample taken to a local pool store had a reading of 37ppm CYA. From my Taylor DPD-FAS, it's more like 25 (where I'd rather be). At that level of CYA, what level of FC is OK to go back in the water? I'm assuming that it has to drop below...

safe FC and CC levels for swimming?

Hi. I've made the switch from Bacquacil to chlorine (using BBB method) last fall before closing our pool for the season therefore am somewhat of a newbie to chlorine pool chemistry. What knowledge I've gained is thru extensive reading of poolsolutions.com threads. Today I had to shock the pool...
