Trouble Maintaining Free Chlorine after Opening this year

Thank you for your response and links. Yes, I've read pretty much everything here over the last few years. I get what you're saying, but I haven't found it to be true for my pool and SWG so I'm hoping that by posting if someone else comes along feeling defeated and desperate like me, my course...

Trouble Maintaining Free Chlorine after Opening this year

Quick update. Been running SWG at 40% trying to find the new balance compared to previous year settings. Ended up with FC of 12 at opening yesterday morning. Left pool open all day with consistent sun exposure. CYA measured roughly between 35-40. Put 48 oz algaecide which falls between the...

Trouble Maintaining Free Chlorine after Opening this year

We opened our pool almost 3 weeks ago and have not swam in it yet. Pool company said we lost too much chlorine over the winter and "shocked" it at opening. We only use the company to open/close, I do all the maintenance in between myself. After letting their shock levels come down, I began...

FC Very Slow to Come Down Following SLAM

The liquid conditioner I used said up to 32ppm/10,000 gallons. I started around 5ppm. At the time, my pool installer had told us our pool was around 13,000 gallons which it turns out he was way wrong. By chance, I was on the manufacturer's website looking at some information about our...

FC Very Slow to Come Down Following SLAM

So I retested CYA today because out of all the tests, it's the one that I never feel confident in the results. I researched the available info about CYA testing here on TFP and followed these instructions: CYA - Cyanuric Acid Test . Doing so resulted in approximately 60ppm. This number makes...

FC Very Slow to Come Down Following SLAM

Thanks for the response. That makes sense... On a sunny hot day with 2-4 people swimming in it we typically experience FC loss of around 2ppm. I guess that explains why we aren't losing much without anyone in the pool. I put 2 gallons of liquid chlorine stabilizer (30ppm rise for 10,000gal)...

FC Very Slow to Come Down Following SLAM

First timer here. CYA is 50 so I shocked with liquid chlorine to 20 ppm FC. Pool is crystal clear, no CC now and less than 1 overnight FC loss. It's been 2 days since I stopped adding Chlorine and FC is at 9.5. Pool has been uncovered for half of this time (required to cover overnight)...

    Combined Chlorine Test

Is there a test out there that ONLY measures Combined Chlorine? I am currently using the Taylor K-2006C test kit and am having trouble pinning down an exact combined chlorine number. When I test using 10mls in which 1 drop = 0.5ppm, the combined chlorine reagent does turn sample to a slight...

Pump Speed and Run Time for Variable Speed Pump and Salt Chlorine Generator

Thank you for your reply. Yeah it goes up 4 cents from 4p - 8p so I've thought about avoiding that. However, at just 16 cents/day, a swimming season of about 5 months and 4-8 being peak sun/heat/swimming/cover off time I'm not sure it makes much sense to shut it down for such little savings...

    Can't Get Alkalinity Under Control

@MITBeta and/or @crusemm Thank you for the replies and yes I had forgotten about using the FC/CYA chart. I knew it had to be at least 30 because it was reading 6 at the pool store and they gave me enough product to raise it to at least 30. CYA using Taylor 2006C kit = 31 Seeing that I...

    Can't Get Alkalinity Under Control

@Texas Splash , I now have the Taylor K-2006C kit. I only had time today to grab a few samples and learn the kit. Here are my results: FC = 10.5 CC = 0.5 (may have been lower, but I was using the steps where 1 drop = 0.5 rather than 0.2) ph = 7.9 Alkalinity = 230 It looks to me that I have...

Pump Speed and Run Time for Variable Speed Pump and Salt Chlorine Generator

What is the longest period of time that you should go between pump end time and pump start? After much thought I've decided to run at higher RPM for less hours of the day. I'm debating to either run 6 hours on (10a-4p), 6 hours off (4p-10p), 6 hours on (10p-4a) and 6 hours off (4a-10a) OR just...

    Can't Get Alkalinity Under Control

It's a Jandy Pro Series JEP-R VSP Digital Controller. Yes, been using the manual to create Schedule. I've Set the star button to 1250 RPM 11am On time and 1059am Off time (wasn't sure if it would get upset if I did 11-11) and Timeclock Enabled (how schedule is enabled). I've set button 2 to...

    Can't Get Alkalinity Under Control

Yes. I've followed the instructions in the manual for setting up a schedule, but it doesn't run despite saying enabled on the two schedules it allows to be created.
