can you post a pic or your cartridge filter set up...I think i would like to vacuum into a separate filter also.

On a weekly basis i vacuum the pool, backflush and rinse the sand filter. 2 days later i notice sand on the liner floor to the right of both water returns and on one side of the pool floor down the decline to the deep end. Would this indicate broken sand filter laterals?

I did consider a 115 volt pump but preferred the lower current spike of each field when the pump starts up and primes. The parts for the electrical upgrade only cost $100 and the 30 year old fuse panel is now a breaker panel.

UPDATE! Ended up getting a hayward maxflo vs pump. Arrived Thursday. Had to upgrade the pool house electrical to change to a 230 Volt motor. Installed the plumbing and wired in the pump. Did not have to buy a new 230V timer as the pump comes equipped with a digital programmable interface...

Feeling reassured that i wasn't going to damage something; I was able to remove the hose. The hose was sealed at both ends; which I think, confirms the ice expansion purpose. Thank you. Time to look into those test kits.
