Thank you TFP. First SLAM going smoothly.

It happened. We went on vacation for a week so I put a floater with a puck in it... came home to find an algae bloom... bummer. (Maybe I closed it too much or the puck is old and less Chlorine or something) Regardless, I started the SLAM according to the directions. Crystal clear water again...

    First time pool owner

If you are doing a partial drain be very sure to test what your CYA really is because it maxes out at 100. I drained 3/4 of my pool only to fill it up and have a CYA reading of 100 again.

    Rolled Beam Pebble Tech Cracks

We love the pool with the house we bought last summer and excited for the season to start again in a few weeks! Thanks for the wonderful TFP resource. The pool is looking great without spending thousands thanks to the help here! Unfortunately our pool has a rolled beam design and about 10...

Two speed or variable speed pump

I am thinking about moving to a new pump for some energy savings and because of some electrical wiring hazards on the current pump. With my current single speed pump it runs the hayward pool vac and skimmer with a manual valve I can adjust if needed. If I switch to dual or variable do I have...

Okay it Happened, I Spilled Bleach

Yup, love my polka dot pants! :-) It could be much worse... A few weeks ago I had a bottle of acid tip over and leak in the back of the car. :-(

CYA at 100 after 80% drain and refill

thanks for the responses and clarifications. In researching more on these boards I saw this same idea for the dilluted test to get a real idea of where it is. With that test I get a 60 so my CYA is still at 120. Wow, that means the CYA was at 500+. Sure wish I would have let the sump pump...

CYA at 100 after 80% drain and refill

Yay! I got my test kit... bummer is I am testing 100 CYA. :-\ Someone (non-authority) said CYA is heavy and they've seen pools drained and still have CYA cause it 'hides in bottom and in the pipes'. Is there even remote truth to that? My guess is the CYA was just way over 100 and they just...

CYA at 100 after 80% drain and refill

Oh no. I didn't realize tests would top out at 100. Maybe I shoulda kept pumping water out. I sure don't want to have to drain again! My logic was I was going to need CYA anyway so I left some of the water there. That could have been a bad decision I guess. I'll let you know what I find as...

CYA at 100 after 80% drain and refill

Hi all, I'm a new pool owner as of last summer. TFP is a great resource and I feel confident I will be able to maintain the pool on my own now. When we got the pool and tested we discovered the CYA was at 100 and the pool water was always cloudy and really high in calcium and other...

    PetersonPool

Very happy to have found TFP resource. First time pool owner as of last summer. Just getting started with the season after a 80% drain the other day to deal with very high CYA. Hoping to have a much nicer pool experience this year. Also testing my sig shows up correctly for future posting...
