Cast iron utility pump in pool = bad idea?

Hi all, i've always used plastic submersible utility pumps to lower the water level for pool closing every year. Those things are cheaply made though, and don't last more than two seasons... and I've gone through many brands over the years. They make more robust cast iron pumps used for sewer or...

Repair separation tank lip with JB waterweld

Just had another idea... found a listing for an old tank for a Hayward StarClear Plus cartridge filter available online. It looks strangely,... similar to the DE separation tank on the Hayward web page, Hayward even uses the same exact photo on the respective information web pages. Do you think...

LED pool light bulb swap - 120v or 12v?

Hi all. One of my incandescent pool lights went out and i've purchased some LED replacements off of Amazon. I didn't realize until I received it that I may have purchased the wrong bulbs, as they come in 12v and 120v flavors. From the look of the photos below, is it immediately obvious which I...

Repair separation tank lip with JB waterweld

I know you are right. Just can't get over the feeling that these tanks, that are outdated at this time, are exorbitantly expensive. I'd hate to hate to buy a whole new one. The thing is made of plastic, so isn't anything sophisticated so just pisses me off. I suppose the alternative is just to...

Repair separation tank lip with JB waterweld

I have no experience doing this kind of stuff, but was contemplating some kind of wire across to support the shape. I suspect you're probably right though,... it'll be hard to seal up. There is a round o-ring gasket in there to help seal. Hmmm.

Repair separation tank lip with JB waterweld

Just curious on folks opinion. I have a separation tank (I know I can do without one and just send to waste but I have no where to drain/dump to on my property) that has some damage on the lip of the tank. I wondered if based on the photos, I might get away with applying some waterweld, roughly...

Bondo or plaster to repair broken DE separation tank?

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Here is a video of what the backwash cycle currently looks like ... (this is the "guy" I hired and yes, I did notice that he didn't bother shutting off the pump when switching modes at the multiport... he owes me a new spider gasket!!) @Richard320, the...

Bondo or plaster to repair broken DE separation tank?

Thanks @JohnT. It's not quite pressured really... when the multiport is set to "backwash", a 1.5" pipe moves the water through the separation tank and out another 1.5" pipe on the other side of the separation tank, back into the pool. It's effectively just a passthrough, so would only be subject...

Bondo or plaster to repair broken DE separation tank?

Hi all. I have a DE separation tank that had some cracks and ultimately, has two lip pieces broken off at the top of the plastic tank where the lid connects. As such, there is now no seal on the lid as the tank o-ring doesn’t sit against anything so is useless. I had tried in the past to repair...
