No, I did not. But yaupon leaves are tiny. If they make their way through the skimmer they can easily get through the pump strainer. I need skimmer sacks.

Clogged impeller was the solution. I reached in and pulled out some leaves and immediately it started gurgling, like I had broken a vacuum. So I knew I was in the right path. Pulled out a good handful of small leaves from my Dang yaupon plants. Put the strainer back in, filled the basket...

No one asked me the psi. I answered above that 1. Air comes out of the air relief and 2. Water comes out of the hose bib that's attached to the discharge. So it's pumping water. It's not pumping it through the actual filter though.

Would that just give up the ghost in one day?

It literally worked fine yesterday morning. Then not after I dropped the pool level and refilled.

Ok, putting on the correct way did nothing. Then lubed up the gasket. Nothing. Took apart the Jandy valve. Not clogged. Turned the Jandy valve closed and filled the 1' of inlet pipe, then completely filled the basket. Nothing. Still won't prime. I even thought maybe my filters were...

Hmm, ok I will double check. Usually it only goes on one way otherwise it hits the pipes if I put it on backwards. But I could have somehow screwed that up.. Would feel pretty foolish if that was the case.

Hmm, I don't think those Jandy valves "close". At least when I was playing with it yesterday, it can only go to one inlet or the other. But not completely close. So not sure how I would accomplish your second step. For the first step...where would you propose I install it?
