Hayward H400FDN heat exchanger leak with steam/smoke

Hello, I have a Hayward H400FDN that I'm pretty sure has a leaking heat exchanger. A few days ago I started getting an IF (ignition failure) code and there was a little bit of steam coming out of the unit. We had been having a lot of rain so I chalked the steam up to that. The IF code has gone...

Rough surface possible stain after opening

I'm not sure if it's rough to my hand, the water is still too cold for me to try it. I've only been going over it with a brush and it feels rough. I get a lot more resistance in those areas when the brush hits them. I have read that on the stains and searched the forums some. Once it warms up...

Thanks, I'll try loading a pic directly to the site next time. Plaster is 4 years old.

Rough surface possible stain after opening

Hello, See below pic for rough what I'm curious about. Not sure how to get rid of the photobucket label in the middle, but you can kind of see what I'm asking about above and below it, just behind the cleaner and right of the cleaner hose. I've been open for about 2 weeks now and the water...

    Open date on East Coast?

I opened a couple weeks ago because I like looking at the pool rather than the cover. Water temp was 52, but I don't plan on swimming until the days get in the 80's. I could heat it now to whatever I wanted, but don't want to spend that $$ with nights that are still cold. As for your...

Heating pool in NC and advice about pollen

I was going to say run the heat pump 24/7 to get the heat up, but I have gas and not a heat pump so Chuck would know more about that and it sounds right. The fact that he's in CT and probably has colder nights may make a difference so you may want to experiment with how many degrees you gain...

Very high pressure and hazy water - anyone know why?

I'm not sure why I didn't see this yesterday afternoon. Regardless, I didn't. But, when I took the cover off, there was very thick globs of DE covering that little microphone looking thing in the filter. I don't know what it is for exactly, but I never saw that before. All the DE looked very...

Very high pressure and hazy water - anyone know why?

Hello everyone, I really appreciate having a place to go to ask questions. I am going to try to be brief, but there's a bit of a back story that may or may not be relevant and I want to share that info just in case. We are in Maryland where we had some very heavy rain 3 weeks ago. My pool...

Help - first time doing this ourselves

If you don't want to backwash and don't mind taking the filter apart, you can take it apart and take the filter grid out and hose it off in the driveway or yard. I do this at the end of every year anyway and use hair nets over the skimmer baskets all year and don't have to backwash all year...

Help - first time doing this ourselves

If your DE filter is like mine with the push/pull, pulling it up backwashes and cleans out the filter, there is no way to bypass the filter and go to waste. I would suggest just vacumming to the filter and then backwashing it afterwards. Hopefully the pressure won't go up too high while you're...

Help - first time doing this ourselves

Some pictures of your plumbing and skimmer things with arrows would help. There are lots of knowledgeable people here that can chime in and get you going. I had trouble with my polaris when I first turned it on because I had a valve turned wrong and water was being forced back toward the...

    Opening...What do I do first?

When you do the CYA, make sure to put it in a sock and let it dissolve in front of a return. The first time I tried it I dumped it in the skimmer like the instructions said with no success. I then read up more on here and found the sock method which works great.

Help - first time doing this ourselves

I wouldn't worry about the antifreeze, it will go into the 17K gallons and you'll never notice it.

New owner builder in Sacramento Ca

Nice job with the pavers. I was going to do mine myself until the retaining wall I built in the below pics herniated a disc in my back and I had to sub it out. In hindsight I had bit off way more than I could chew with the pavers. The big one you see scattered in there is 80 lbs and was very...
