Jandy JXi (260) heater - insufficient flow rate

To close the loop on this - and for the benefit of anyone encountering the same issue: I fixed the problem. Despite the band-aid solution my PB was suggesting, no, you don't need to run the pump at 3000RPM to achieve enough flow with this heater, and yes a heater like this rated for 30GPM...

    Fill pump basket every time?

thx all. good feedback. this is one of those very basic yet somewhat confusing practices that probably vary a bit with set-up.. what i'm taking away from this is that as long as there is "some" water in the pump (mine is always at least 1/4 full after cleaning the basket) and the pump is capable...

    Fill pump basket every time?

thx Pat. what i found confusing was the while the pumps I'm using are marketed as "self-priming" (which i took to mean I dont have to do anything), the advice seemed to suggest the need to fill basket with water before use. and indeed, with my pumps, they ramp up to max speed for a few...

What's this blue buildup on my heater's unitherm governor?

Will do. Thx for your advice and for trying to make sense of whats going on..!

What's this blue buildup on my heater's unitherm governor?

Thx Matt - sounds like there's something in my local water I might always have to battle then perhaps.. (the original fill water came from nearby municipality on a truck, so G-knows what's in there).. Besides checking this every few months, is there something I should do to "neutralize" this...

    Fill pump basket every time?

New "full time" pool owner / first season - getting a decent hang of chemistry but sooo confused about this one. When do you manually fill your pump basket with water? Just at start up? Every time that you open the basket lid and restart it? Or every single time that you stop/start the pump...

What's this blue buildup on my heater's unitherm governor?

It's municipal drinking water. Full chem analysis published here, if relevant... doesn't mean anything to me.. and i'd imagine it's consistent with whatever standards for drinking water there are in large north american cities...

What's this blue buildup on my heater's unitherm governor?

Now that you mention it, he did add a metal sequestrant indeed, if I recall correctly. Dumped a full container in it, before I asked him what was there to sequester in clean new drinking water and tried to stop him! He also added half bottle algicide and some oxidizer shock. The only other thing...

    Water trapped inside sump pump

sounds like the same kind of cheapo pump i have.. i guess it's just a design flow. glad to know it doesnt cause functional issues... otherwise i was going to return! thx for sharing your experience

What's this blue buildup on my heater's unitherm governor?

Btw - I just went to check the chems my PB added when the pool was first opened last month - and there was nothing blue in colour left over. Could this be PVC glue/cement that was used for plumbing that made its way through pipes, passed the filter and ended up being stuck on the thermal...

    Water trapped inside sump pump

Allen - I can feel it, by weight, and I can hear it swishing around as I shake the pump. This might just be a pump with poor design that just ends up trapping in water... I see a few questions on amazon on this pump pointing to the same concern..

What's this blue buildup on my heater's unitherm governor?

Have had issues with this brand new heater. Supposed to function at 30GPM, and never did until at least 45GPM. At that speed (45GPM - 2100RPM), it would work but making a loud howling/whaling noise. Jandy today sent a tech. He did two things. Changed an internal pressure valve. He said the one...

    Water trapped inside sump pump

Not exactly pool-related but thought expertise on the forum may bring an answer... I just bought a sump pump (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07SNGQQVW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to drain groundwater from my pool sump pit. After using it today, I noticed there's a fair...

    Flowmeter on autofill

Looks similar to a DAE model I found on Amazon I also thought would work. I tried a couple cheaper ones and were both no good. Let us know if this one is fit for purpose when you do install it... Btw, why do you need a timer on the autofill line? To avoid a flap/float device, and run it based...
