SLAMming for 12 days and still have high CC

Update. 16th day of SLAM. Daytime chlorine loss was high, so I checked CYA and it was down to 0! Surprised me, as I thought there was no way to reduce CYA except by emptying an amount of pool water. I added 32 oz CYA in a stocking in the skimmer, after it dissolved, I added 32 oz more. Not sure...

SLAMming for 12 days and still have high CC

As far as I know, nothing else in the water. Re-plastering finished in May with a fresh fill of hose water. Pool remodeler added only calcium shock and CYA, and it's been fine since then. Using TF-100 test kit for testing. @BasicTek, sun has been normal for around here... lots of it, not much...

SLAMming for 12 days and still have high CC

A few weeks after my chlorine dropped to 0 while on vacation. I noticed a few algae spots in my newly refinished pebble tech pool, and I scrubbed them with a chlorine tab, but they didn't go away. I decided it's time to SLAM. I've been SLAMming for 12 days now! CYA was at 55 when I started...

    Liquidator install question

@JohnT: That's something I hadn't thought about. Good idea. @Bama Rambler: That's what I thought. I'll give it a try since I don't have to go out and look for a clamp to implement JohnT's idea. Thanks!

    Liquidator install question

I've purchased the Liquidator with the 3/8" upgrade kit (thanks to the guys at http://www.poolservicestech.com) and during installation, I had a problem with where I should put the "out" line from the liquidator. Instructions say to put it before the pump strainer basket, but my valve to select...

"greased watermelon" - fun, but now regretting it...

I did the same thing. "What harm could there be?" I thought... I wound up using an enzyme based additive, and then just going around the pool with paper towels and wiping the tiles down. I wound up using the additive several times more, but only a few ounces at a time. Looks good now...

How much chlorine consumption is "normal"

Good thought. I do have a light that could have algae behind it, and of course, I'll double check the pump baskets, etc. To check the filter, do you think I need to do a teardown and thorough cleaning of the DE grids, or is a backwash sufficient? Thanks!

How much chlorine consumption is "normal"

So to be sure I have absolutely no organics, do you recommend shocking? I did shock it about a month ago because the pool guy never kept the FC high enough to compensate for the high CYA. I thought I had done a good shock, but near the end I ran out of titrants, and couldn't verify my levels...

How much chlorine consumption is "normal"

I've gotten my pool balanced after firing my pool guy. I have a question about how much chlorine usage/loss is normal for a pool similar to mine. When I read the threads, it seems like mine is using considerably higher amounts. After dumping the pool guy, I drained the pool to get the CYA...

Fired my pool guy. What's good cya level for Phoenix?

@meatloaf- How much bleach / week or day do you wind up using in your pool in the summer to maintain FC?

Fired my pool guy. What's good cya level for Phoenix?

Thanks! I'll give it a go at this level for a while and see how it performs...

Fired my pool guy. What's good cya level for Phoenix?

Bought a house with a pool, and had no knowledge of pool care, so I opted to have a pool guy come and do just the chemicals. He never got it right last summer and I was back and forth to Leslie's, dumping all sorts of crud in there, which sorta worked! I did chems myself during the 'off season'...
