So here's a picture of the guts of my SWG... It does have a thermistor but it looked to be in good shape. When I was digging into it I remembered I had an old salt cell and decided to hook it up... The old one is actually producing chlorine again... I'm not sure how long so the culprit like you...

Do you know why the salt is reading as zero?

Sorry, so the salt cell is only a couple of years old. But it was from the guy in Florida who rebuilds them. First one I got I had issues. He sent me the current one I'm using. Here is a picture of the SWG... Ill grab some info off my salt cell asap. (When I get home)

Tested salt with the Taylor kit reading at 3,000. Here's the readings that my Hayward aqua right is giving me. 0 87 31.3 0.00 100p -0 AL -0 r 1.59 t-15 I read that you can replace the Aqua-Rite Thermistor AS 32 2R025. After watching some videos it looks a little complicated with soldering...
