    Old pucks not dissolving

It's all under a winter tarp right now or I would post a picture. I have a good, local pool store that I use for opening and closing (due to my own laziness) so I will ask them to check the equipment out when they open it in a coupe weeks. The owner is awesome and understands the TFP method...

    Old pucks not dissolving

I haven't tried them this year but when I used them last year the water was in upper 70s to low 80s

    Old pucks not dissolving

Do pucks usually lose their ability to dissolve? I have some that are like 5 years old and tried to use them at the end of last season since my cya was low and I was mainly just trying to keep the pool from going green before closing it... But they didn't dissolve very well. Like I put them in...

    water loss

I lose up to half an inch of water per day on hot sunny days. I put the hose in twice a week if there is no rain.

Granular Triclor - How to add

Not sure about trichlor, but I occasionally add granular cal-hypo to my pool since my calcium level is always low and I can sometimes get it cheaper than liquid chlorine. Anyway, I always mix it real good with water in a 3 gallon bucket before adding it to the pool, then just slowly add the...

    Typical Chlorine depletion

My CYA is 40 and I have been losing about 3.5 per day this week as it's been sunny and in the upper 80s, almost 90. When it was cooler and overcast I was losing 2 or so per day. My CC is always 0 and I pass the OCLT everytime I do it.

    2019 Bleach Prices

I have a couple shirts with nice white spots on them from splashback when dumping bleach in like an animal instead of in a nice slow stream.

    2019 Bleach Prices

Kroger here in Cincinnati has 10% in 4 packs for $10. That's the normal price, not a sale price.

Trichlor vs. Cal hypo... anyone use Cal Hypo?

I use cal-hypo early and late in the season, when big box stores around me stop carrying 10% liquid chlorine, since my CH is pretty low (110 to start the season, 130 now), and the cal-hypo I order online is cheaper than buying 10% L.C. from the pool stores. I'm not sure exactly what you are...

    New Coke

That HFCS conspiracy theory falls apart when you look at the fact that Coke started using HFCS in 1980. There is no conspiracy, it was just terrible marketing.

Liquid Chlorine & How to Read Expiration Date

This is exactly what I do... except I am the last person on Earth without a smart phone so I do the math in my head like a common pleb.

    Using last year's regents

Yeah the powder was a little grey... I'll order some new powder. It's pretty low anyway. I'll keep an eye on the Ph tests and see how they look. My Ph is usually quite stable so I should eb able to tell if something funky is going on with the regent.

    Using last year's regents

So my pool is going to be opened in two weeks, and of course I was going to order a new test kit, but I looked at all of my regents from last year and none of them expire until Dec '19 or spring of '20. They were stored in a closet in my basement, which is dry and around 60-65 degrees. I'm...

What Should I Pay For When I Open My Pool Up

I pay to have my pool opened. They remove the cover, get all the equipment up and running, put in the ladders and add four gallons of liquid chlorine to jump start the slam. I could do it myself, but I like having them do it because if something goes wrong, like two years ago when they...

CYA at 30, pool only open one more month... ok to use trichlor tabs?

Thanks for the tip. I will still be testing FC daily.
