I am seeing this long white hard substance show up on the sides of my gunite pool. First there was only one spot, now it seems like there are many. It almost looks like it is dried up caulk or dried glue. It is very hard. Any ideas what it is or what is causing it?

Any thoughts? I'm thinking about just replacing my variable speed pump with the old single speed pump that I still have sitting in the garage. Not sure if it's worth it to change the capacitor out.

Here's the update on the power testing. The Intermatic timer has 240V on the input terminals (terminal 2 and terminal 4) and 240V on the output terminals (terminal 3 and terminal 5). From this it seems like the pump is getting power. I also unscrewed the pump cover and tested the terminals...

It's 220V. All of the power connections are in conduit tubes hooked up to an intermatic timer box. If the LCD doesn't show the green light indicating there is power, could it be a capacitor issue?
