It occurs to me that if I unscrew the cover, I might be able to remove the handle, cover, key, and seal all together. This should allow me to deal with it in a more controlled environment. I'll try to post details about how this goes.

That's the goal! I like the superpump fine, but that single speed 1 horse was devouring electricity. Had to slam for almost 2 weeks and my wife would have lived to have strangled me when the bill came in.
