Thank you so much, I really appreciate the response. Also you are correct about the unions, I only put them on the return and skimmer side and I should also have them on the waste and pump side so I will do that when I start to fix this after work tomorrow. Any other suggestions or ideas?

Absolutely freaking genius….the bal valve! Thanks, this sounds like it may work. Still need a new 1.5 hp pump but now my options are better.
