    Stabilizing PH with Borates

You will add 2 gallons every 2 weeks in Jason's example, I believe. Less frequent but more when you add.

A Very Special Post Just Appeared on the Forum

Jason, You keep this site one of the best (best one I know) run on the Internet. Thank you for all your hard work. It is a great forum.

The boric acid is in the water!

Since you are in Houston I can recommend to go get a 55 lb bag at AAA chemicals. It was 70$ and that amount should be about perfect for your pool size. I did it and I am very pleased with the result. You will want to call in advance - the place can seem a little disorganized if you just show up...

How to keep your little swimmers from getting burnt?

We use swim shirts for the kids all the time and try to limit the time outside between 11 AM and 3 PM. The sun is so much stronger in that period. We still use a little SPF 50 on their noses and cheeks but that's it - and they have very light skin...... This way we also avoid lots of sun screen...

    Pebble Sheen and LED Lights

Robbie, All the pictures are from my pool which is PebbleSheen Prism Blue. It seems Ocean Blue is very close. We also like the shiny abalone shells (hard to see in this picture). I don't know if it will match your decking but it actually has a few red specks as well (you can only see them when...

    Pebble Sheen and LED Lights

Thanks a lot for the nice words, maxepr. I also think the plaster company did a nice job. I clearly remember how hard the plaster color decision was for us so I just wanted to try to give something back to this great website and post pictures of the finished product. As many of you know, colors...

    Pebble Sheen and LED Lights

OK, I shot a few pictures this afternoon and just now after dark. We looked at many pools before we decided and the final two were Ocean Blue and Prism Blue. They are very close but Ocean Blue seem a bit more gray in the shallow water. Blue Granite seemed very gray and frankly a bit boring...

    Pebble Sheen and LED Lights

We have the Prism Blue PebbleSheen and IntelliBrite LED's. I will try to take some pictures tonight. I think it looks great but wait and see.

First test results water out of the faucet

Did you make sure to wipe the bottle tip when counting drops for TA? My first TA analyses were also very high until I also followed that little bit of advice. The drops became bigger and the TA number smaller.....

Friendswood pool build - almost there......

I was a little unsure about this part myself but it seems that it is perfectly normal to plaster the PebbleSheen one day (this was done Saturday) and then acid wash 1-2 days later (this was done Monday). They started filling immediately after the acid wash. From what I have read and heard, the...

Calculating the price to add borates

Uups, I don't know why I had that one confused. Of course the TA is taken care of earlier in the process and I guess regardless of the borate source. Thanks for clarifying so not to confuse others.

Friendswood pool build - almost there......

Thanks, stipoolnoob. We are enjoying it every night after work. The kids love it but DW still thinks it is too cold - only 85F..... Maybe August in Houston will be warm enough for her - otherwise I foresee getting a huge gas bill over the summer....

Calculating the price to add borates

I see many advantages in using the boric acid. Price is nearly identical and you don't have to wait for aeration, spend money running all water features, risking too high or too low pH during the Borax/MA process, handling strong acid (muriatic) etc. The price difference - if any - must by...

Friendswood pool build - almost there......

Re: Friendswood pool build - We made it.... Finally there :-D We filled the pool two weeks ago. It took 16 hours through 3 hoses. The kids jumped in the pool the first day and we have been swimming every night since then. The temperature quickly made it above 80F which is very comfortable...

    Location of salt cell (IC60)

Good to know. You definitely want to make sure they are in the right order, I guess......
