    Chalky Residue

I try to vacuum the stuff that has settled. But it doesn't. I cannot figure that out. I can pause with the vacuum attachment right over the spot or move it very slowly and it just stays there. If there are any bugs or anything else on the bottom it get those tho. It's like whatever it is just...

    Chalky Residue

Here's an update. We've been slamming the pool since last Friday (one week). There really is not a noticeable change. Overnight I lost 3 points of chlorine and the test showed 1 part combined chlorine. I don't know what you need to know to give some advice. I've been testing 4-6 times per day...

    Chalky Residue

Here's an update. CYA 35-40 (I did another test to reassure myself) FC 18 According to the app my SLAM target is 16 with a CYA of 40. So I've been dosing to 18 to give some room for burnout. I think we dipped below slam briefly this afternoon - it dropped to 14 sometime between 3:30 and 6 PM...

That is from now - during the SLAM.

    Chalky Residue

Oh. I forgot to post CC .5 or less -- on a 10ml sample I could just barely detect a pinkish color and one drop of the 0871 easily cleared it back up. You may question this test My R003 is two years old. If you think that makes the test bogus let me know.

    Chalky Residue

Just now: FC 14.5 (added bleach to bring up to 18) CYA 40 PH 7.2 TA 230 CH 240 It seems like it is eating a lot of chlorine. (I've used a 1 1/2 gallons of 10% in the last 24 hours). I'll attach a picture of the "stuff" on the handle. Plus there is some spots on the bottom of the pool - they...

    Chalky Residue

I'm trying to figure out a situation I haven't had before. I'll briefly describe and if someone has more questions before you can give a good answer just ask. I've been SLAMMING my pool since Friday Afternoon - we were starting to eat through about 6 points of chlorine every day and had some...

    Seasonal Pool fill

This is our 3rd season using TFP methods. I've learned a lot and have been pleased with the results. I'm just ready to set up our pool for the season and one question: When I do the initial fill, is it necessary to take the chlorine to SLAM levels and do an overnight loss test? Or do I just aim...

    Eating too much Chlorine

Not for 3 days. It was 1.5 then. Plan to do one in the morning. So one question - can I be "almost there" visually but still be burning through that amount of chlorine? I was thinking being this close I would not burn that much anymore each day.

    Eating too much Chlorine

Here's my numbers at sunset: CYA = 40 FC = 16 CC = 1.5 PH = 8 (or more) TA = 250 Here's the problem: Water is as crystal clear. But when I sweep there's the faintest "puff" of green, just like a little dust that swirls around the vacuum end. And I can't get rid of it. For 4 days I've been...

    Water not clearing

I still have cloudy water (I can see the bottom but it isn't clear.) I'm pretty sure the first logical question you will ask is "are you sure the SLAM was done correctly?" It was my first time and I can't guarantee it was right. I followed the instructions above and on the slam page except I was...

    Water not clearing

Thanks. I appreciate the help you've given. Setting the iron issue aside for now, I have another question about refills / topping off. I haven't added any water since the initial fill because I'm worried I'll mess things up. Now its down about 6-8 inches from full. I need to add approximately...

    Water not clearing

Making progress. Water is slowly clearing. Can someone point me to a thread on how to treat water that is added to replace evaporation? I’m down about 6 inches since filling several weeks ago. And I don’t want to mess anything up by adding.
