    FC vs CYA chart location

@Leebo - You are missing one key factor. Many of us simply search for "troublefreepool CYA chart" when we need a reference. The link takes us there, and we are done for that session. What is happening now is: a) We are searching/reading for 20 min to land in this thread. then b) We are saving...

    Salt Cell Post Mortem #2

Based on my last post, 4 years, 291 days before July 22, 2020 :)

    $900? I bought a chlorinatorpro for ~$350.

    Salt Cell Post Mortem #2

Remember, you've got electrolytic action, plus YEARS of 100gpm flow, plus salt and chlorine (an oxidizer) on the surface, all acting at the same time. It's probably leached away 1 or two atoms per second, over millions of seconds. Based on the other plates, I suspect electrolysis is...

    Cooling the pool

An important thing to remember is that heat is energy, and the energy loss (i.e. cooling) occurs when water evaporates, thus lowering the temp of the body of water it left behind. When you pump water into the air, some of the energy is lost from the water droplets, which return to the pool at a...

    Salt Cell Post Mortem #2

Definitely keep me posted on the results. This is a feasible method to get 1-2 more years out of a "dead" cell. My biggest fear has always been an unexpected rupture in the modified cell, resulting in an empty pool. Do you have a picture of the assembled product?

    Water level Management

I've always had a tarp and water bags for winter. This year we installed a safety cover (hallelujah!). We are a vinyl pool. When I put it on the water level was at the top of the skimmer. We're facing several inches of rain over the next few days. Any suggestions for monitoring and managing...

    Salt Cell Post Mortem #2

Unfortunately, I don't have one of those. And I'll admit I was surprised when it took the first blow from an 3# hammer (on a seam) and didn't even crack. Very solid construction. Yes, those are after pictures. And the plates looks surprisingly good, especially when compared to the T-15 plates...

    Salt Cell Post Mortem #2

Five years ago I hacked apart my dead Hayward T-15 for "science". This week my Chlorinator Pro CP-15 gave up the ghost. Once again, I disassembled it and here are the pictures... Notes: - The electrodes were not corroded. They broke during violent disassembly. - The sealant was not tar like. It...

need advice on replacement for SWG - Hayward T-CELL 15

Check your PMs. Looking at your signature we have the exact same setup, except the variable speed pump. The CP-15 worked fine for me, and Dan provides *fantastic* service and support.

need advice on replacement for SWG - Hayward T-CELL 15

Final Update: Chlorinator Pro CP-15 cell gave up the ghost after 4 years, 291 days. I paid $299 (~$62.32/yr). I have ordered a replacement, also a Chlorinator Pro CP-15. For reference, the previous cell (Hayward T-15) lasted ~7 years and costs $499 today ($71.29/yr)

    Warning About Walmart Liquid Chlorine

I ran a pressure washing business for 5 years and we bought 200-400 gallons of 12.5% a week. I know good bleach like Dean Martin knows a good martini. And there are a couple of pieces of semi-incorrect info above. Chlorine smell comes from chloramines, impurities, and degradation. Fresh hot...

pool pump makes humming noise and does not pump

That's what mine did. Replace the motor, the windings are probably cooked.

pool pump makes humming noise and does not pump

In the same boat as you are. New cap and wet side rebuild. Mine will sometimes start, not others. I'm thinking the motor has cooked/shorted some windings and is operating with high current/low torque.

    Pump motor questions

Having replaced the run cap, I think it's the motor. But I need a sanity check. I pulled it apart, installed new cap, and it spins up nicely, UNLESS I reassemble the pump. When reassembled it hums and won't spin 95% of the time. 5% = it did spin once when I was pushing water into the inlet with...
