    cya drain

I do have an autofill. Any idea how to track down a leak?

    cya drain

I am a bit mystified by my test results regarding CYA. It was my understanding that you only reduced CYA levels by draining/refilling, but not by evaporation/refilling. This last April, my CYA was down to about 0, as it is most Aprils, so I bumped it up to about 40ppm. About a month ago...

A vote for bleach over pucks.

Bottom line, you're doing the right thing with bleach. The pucks were lowering the pH over time. You need to test your CYA to be sure you maintain the proper FC levels since you used pucks for a while (which drives up CYA). Otherwise, you'll be fighting algae again before you know it. But...

Tile scale - best practices for removing

I ignored my high pH for too long and now I've got a healthy ring of scale at the water line. I'm much better about watching my chemistry, but now I have to pay my dues. Any tips on the best way to remove the ring?

All chemicals in check except acid

Your TA is definitely a problem. If you have water features that aerate the water, that could be a contributor as well. Things like spa spillovers, waterfalls, and bubblers all cause the pH to rise.

    White plaster turning grey? Help!

This is part of the problem, but not a unique one. Pool stores are not the greatest source of accurate information. I think Richard was suggesting getting a good test kit, like the Taylor k-2006 or the TF-100, and learn to test yourself. It's really pretty easy, and after a while maintaining...

    Raising CH

I do have to work on my profile. I'm sure you're right about the water, I'm probably over thinking it. Just thought I'd try to hone in on zero for my CSI.

    Raising CH

It's at about -0.3 right now. My pool is about 10 years old. My fill pH is over 8, plus with all the aeration, adding MA is a regular part of my pool maintenance. I wanted to add CH to get the CSI closer to 0. I don't want to add TA since my pool already has a problem with consistently rising...

    Raising CH

Good point, I thought about that later. I have a 24k gallon white plaster pool. I live in coastal southern california, and have a couple of water features that aerate the water while the pump is running. My pH rises pretty fast, so I need to add MA regularly. I have a Taylor k-2006 test kit...

    Raising CH

I'm thinking of adding calcium chloride to raise CH a bit. Where is the best place to buy it and will it make my water taste salty? Thanks!
