BenB I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If they are reducing the FC doesn't that mean there is exposure? Then when it stabilizes then whatever algae is sanitized?

One more question - I have wrist issues which keep me from brushing the pool all the time, will SLAM still work but just take longer? I can be patient as long as eventually it will work.

I think my method was just wrong on the first test - I wasn't getting deep enough in the water so maybe was just getting surface water which was lower FC. This would explain why my test and the test at Leslie's both showed 1.5. It didn't make any sense to me bc I'd boosted for nearly two days...
