Spa Techs: Balboa Circuit Assistance Needed

To put a coda on this saga: I never could figure out what was wrong with my circuit board logic. So, I got a little creative! I purchased a SPDT latching air switch and a wood look air button for a garbage disposal. I connected the line from the working pump relay to the switch common and...

Spa Techs: Balboa Circuit Assistance Needed

Thanks Bama. I pulled the board again last night and went over it with a fine tooth comb and saw nothing wrong. No bad solder joints (there were only four I touched from the bad relay anyway), no obviously scorched parts, etc. I found the attached doc regarding those soldered in jumpers, and...

Spa Techs: Balboa Circuit Assistance Needed

You are exactly correct on both counts. There are two relays, a PUMP LOW and PUMP HIGH, and I have tested both as good. And LOW-->OFF-->OFF is exactly what I would expect to see as well if the logic was correct but the relay was bad. But as I said earlier that isn't the case, it's as if it...

Spa Techs: Balboa Circuit Assistance Needed

Yeah, I thought about a similar hack. A manual two pole switch to go from low to high. I could manually energize the high relay as you described, but the low could still be on and you don’t want both on at the same time. I’d have to instruct my entire family to be sure the pump is off (not...

Help Me Get My Hot Tub Running

In order to find out what you really have, you need to pull the service panel and check out the guts, IE: the spa pack. There should be a manufacture label/tag on the tub itself, as well as make & serial number on the spa pack circuitry and pump. That's step one! The shell damage might be...

help with hot tub heater test and other random circuitry : leisure bay s2

Hi! I am going through a slightly different issue with my free tub resurrection, and I can give some insight as our boards are of the same era and identical (with different programming chips). Hot tub heaters are all 120/240. They are just an element that takes juice and heats up so they will...

Spa Techs: Balboa Circuit Assistance Needed

Any Spa Techs in the house? First a little background: I'm a long time TFP member on the pool side, but just now getting back into the Spa world after 20 years without one. I am also a hardcore DIY'er type (see my pool repaint thread) so when my wife found a "Free Hot Tub! Just take it away...

Pump to filter hose fitting leaking (filter side)

I know back when I had above ground pool, I always had problems with hose leaks (or hose collapse on the suction side) and I hated the dang clamps! Plus, every once in a while a hose would just pop off and blow water everywhere! I did what was suggested above with plugs so I didnt have to...

Chronic suction leak found! Previous owner hack job.

Not really. It's kind of off by itself. :-?

Chronic suction leak found! Previous owner hack job.

Agreed. Hindsite, et all. I Rear-u-me'd that all the lines were intact and had fixated on the "pool house" end of things. :hammer:

    What size pump?

The S180T is the middle of the Hayward above ground product line. They make smaller, they make bigger. The size might be a tad big, but it's a good filter. I had the smallest one on a 15' above ground round pool many years ago and have a much larger S244S on my in-ground now. I am sold on...

    BBB and Frequent Travel?

I am a very frequent business traveler (Platinum/Million Miler). I just fall back onto pucks in the skimmer when away and the family is home. If we are all gone, the tried and true "floater" gets me by until I return. I also monitor my CYA level so usually it's not a problem.

How harmful is pool water to environment?

Well you could wait until your chlorine drops to zero before pumping out at the end of the season to eliminate that concern. The only other thing that might be an issue is many algaecides are toxic to aquatic life, however if you follow this forums BBB advice you won't need algaecide...

My wife will never go in this pool again.....

WOW. I'll never complain about the mice & moles I find in my pool again!
