I am a very frequent business traveler (Platinum/Million Miler). I just fall back onto pucks in the skimmer when away and the family is home. If we are all gone, the tried and true "floater" gets me by until I return. I also monitor my CYA level so usually it's not a problem.

For comparison: I have a 1.5hp pump on a 15x30 in-ground pool and honestly it's overkill for ME! I should have gone with a 1hp or even .75hp when I replaced. As I have learned from this forum, bigger is not always better.

The problem is my pool is an odd duck. Cement floor with fiberglass walls. To do it right would mean ripping out all the walls, hence the high cost. I have decided that, barring something catastrophic, I will just keep on painting every five years.
