Liquid chlorine - why you need safety glasses!

Oh wow! Good to know. Too bad I didn't know this (or the 1 inch recommendation) last week!

Liquid chlorine - why you need safety glasses!

Thanks. For some reason I thought it should be higher than an inch in order to allow the chlorine to get deeper into the water instead of staying near the surface (especially with the cover on). I agree with 1 inch of clearance it would be far less likely to splash up into your face! Note I was...

Liquid chlorine - why you need safety glasses!

I found out the hard way why safety glasses are recommended for pouring any hazardous liquid, regardless of how careful you are. Yesterday I poured liquid pool chlorine (10.5%) from a measuring cup into the pool with my arm outstretched, and the cup only 4 inches or so from the surface of the...

Leaking drain/waste valve, replace with cap?

Definitely at the valve -- I have taken the hose off before and can see it dripping out the bottom of the grey elbow piece attached to the bottom of the valve. Maybe I should just hire someone to take the valve out completely (replace the T piece above with a straight section of pipe)?

Leaking drain/waste valve, replace with cap?

I have a ball valve that used to go to a drain/waste line, but that line had a leak in it underground that actually damaged our pool several years ago. (The line was shared with house sump pump which did the damage.) So we never use it anymore, and always keep the valve closed. For the last 5+...

Question about freezing damage to underground lines

Okay, thanks very much for your response, that makes sense. I am wondering if it could have been caused by ground movement putting stress on the lines, as there was a huge amount of rain & wet snow prior to the freeze. I'll ask the pool guys if they have any more details, but in any case I'm...

Question about freezing damage to underground lines

Hi there! Here is the interesting scenario that happened: In the fall (due to other repairs going on), all my lines were pressure tested and passed, all good. The pool company closed the pool and blew out the lines. In the spring, there was a leak in one of my return lines (stair jets). Water...

    Haywood heater clicking sound

My Hawyard H250 was making a sound like this today, right after I turned it on. I took out my skimmer sock (which was clean but potentially obstructing flow a little) and turned it back on and the sound went away. Not sure if taking out the skimmer sock was related or not. But I was wondering...

initial fill, low CYA, what should target chlorine be?

Perfect thanks! Yes, love the liquid chlorine. Best price around here is Canadian Tire. Yes, doing that now, takes a while to dissolve.

Damage to pool during liner replacement

Even though this post is a year old I thought I should explain what happened in case anyone finds it, they may learn from it. It turned out the damage to the pool was caused by a broken underground sump line (running from house sump pump, not pool). Turns out the break in the line was RIGHT...

initial fill, low CYA, what should target chlorine be?

After initially filling pool (new liner), my CYA is being brought up but is currently well below 20 (min value on the chlorine-CYA chart). It's only 5 ppm. What should my target chlorine level be? I've found from new fills in the past that it doesn't seem to take much chlorine when CYA is so...

Damage to pool during liner replacement

Here is a picture showing the bulges in the wall -- a big one to the right of the light, and a smaller one to the left of it. It's hard to see in the water, but where the liner is sort of hilly, that isn't water or air behind it, but some kind of dirt/debris.
