Back almost exactly one year later to open again! A few questions

It's that time, landlord had a pool guy come open it up. Pump up and running, 2gal chlorine & some pucks in, and a beautifully dark green swimming pool. I'm woefully underprepared as he came earlier than expected. I have no chlorine and no R-0871 reagent. Yay :D Already backwashed it once...

Advice on shocking a green pool & followup?

Alright, so after the past two month's of crazy power bills for the pool house, I have ordered replacement stops for the timer dial connected to the pool pump. It's been running 24/7 since we opened late April, so planning to test and see if running it less lowers the power bill. Previous...

Advice on shocking a green pool & followup?

Gotcha. I see it in stock 13 minutes away. PoolMath says 18oz would lower it to 7.6 from 8.0. I'll pick some up after work in the next day or two and add it. Does a pool above 8 pH become unsafe to swim in, or what is the concern with out of range pH? Just curious.

At what point will it be necessary to address the pH? And by dose, I suppose you mean with Muriatic acid? Is this a liquid or powder chemical? I'll have to find some.

Safe to put discharge in yard when lowering CYA?

Our backwash/drain goes under the ground and points to the ditch in the yard leading into the water company's drainage system I would assume. I imagine if you're wondering whether you can send it into a drain, it may vary by city/state, a quick call to your water department may clear it up.

Advice on shocking a green pool & followup?

Back for some advice regarding pH test: But first, Pool's still running crystal clear, thanks to everyone's help! Here's an update photo: Now, I've been running the simpler chlorine test (the one that goes up to 10 in the Taylor kit) just to make sure I'm above 8 or at least within range each...

    Am I finished SLAMing?

I would go by the OCLT results. If you pass that & water is crystal clear you should be good, but make sure you pass. Maybe run two in a row :ROFLMAO: Measuring loss during the day is tough because there are multiple factors involved (sunlight + potential algae) that you can't differentiate...

    Low CYA help

can confirm, check the bottles. it took 4-5 rinses of my bottle when I used it. I dumped what I could, threw the bottle in recycling. Realized my levels had not changed. Luckily bottle was still there, look inside, and tons of chalky stuff stuck to the insides. Guess that was most of the CYA...

    Taking charge of my pool

When it says my photos are too large, I Just crop them down a bit so they show what's important but the file size is reduced I believe. Not sure if that could help you

Advice on shocking a green pool & followup?

Photo update: The pool house ends up blocking half the pool with shade around this time of day, but you get the idea. All thanks to the super helpful folks here!
