Film on water under auto cover

Could be. It definitely looks a bit like oil. Not sure what the smell is though. I feel like I need to somehow clean/scrub the bottom of the cover, but I’m not quite sure how to do that. Break out the scuba gear? 😉

Film on water under auto cover

I had that thought. It is also sometimes accompanied by a turpentine-like smell. I haven’t found any reference to that — not sure whether is it some algae thing or possible as you said the cover reacting to the chlorine.

Thanks for the replies about the Siemens breaker. Swapped out what i had for one of those and haven’t seen a trip since.

Film on water under auto cover

My pool for the most part has been very clean and clear thanks to following the TFP way, however I have noticed that whenever I open the cover, there is a film on the surface of the water that looks like it could be algae (or something else?). I tried to capture it in some pictures. It goes away...

    SWCG Tripping Breaker?

The breaker is GFCI. I was mistaken though — it’s 20 amps. (Two 20 amps together — forgot about it being 220v). Is there a good way to stop the vsp from tripping the GFCI? Or do I just replace it with a non GFCI?

    SWCG Tripping Breaker?

I have recently started having an issue where the breaker that feeds my main pump and my SWGC (through a relay on my AquaLink automation) keeps getting tripped at random times. I haven’t been able to identify a particular event that triggers it. I did just recently replace my single sleep pump...

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

So glad you made this recommendation. Finally got my V-Green VS motor (was backordered for ~6 weeks thanks to COVID), and installed it the other day. A little over an hour of work (on probably the hottest day of the year, of course), and I finally have bliss! Even at the speed that gives me...

    WaterGuru Sense Test v. TF-100

Did you happen to compare the FC reading to your taylor kit? I agree that the pH seems to be right on, but it is consistently showing ~1.5ppm lower than what I get using the FAS/DPD test (which I think should be pretty accurate). I guess if it stays consistent, I can just add 1.5, but makes we...

    WaterGuru Sense Test v. TF-100

I just got mine a week ago, and am still a bit up in the air about it. With and SWG and auto cover, and not using the pool daily, it has been a struggle to keep my FC at good levels (constantly adjusting the SWG output depending on my usage, and needing to test daily), so I am hopeful that this...

    Automation - Century V-green 270, Aqualink RS4, pool/spa ---> iAqualink Wi-Fi control

I am looking for the best way to get this set up. I have the v-green 270 on order (backordered until mid-july everywhere). Can you share how you set it up with the automation adaptor? Do you find that it is good enough? Before I drop the extra $200 on the adaptor, I want to be sure it does...

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

Makes sense. I think I want to go this way. So given my current pump is 1.25 HP, does it make sense to go with a 1.65hp VSP or a 2.7 run at lower speed? I guess either way I would replace the impeller as well. Obviously there is a cost differential ($400 vs $800), but assuming the lower...

Looks like they do! That is way better than replacing the whole thing!

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

Any idea what I would expect to pay for a 3HP VSP + installation in the new york area? My builder is quoting me $2800, which seems high. But I don't know. How involved is it to do myself? I am generally pretty handy with mechanical/electrical stuff, but haven't actually done something like this.
