You have to speak up - it's your pool, and it would be difficult to fix later. Someone may know better, but I believe when they do the plaster they can round things off even more. I know all my steps and edges looked so sharp after gunite. Once the plaster was finished, they all look beautifully rounded. I did show the head plaster guy a picture of what I wanted, but I think they would have done the rounding anyway.

Are you so giddy???? Or do you feel numb that it's finally happening?

SUZ! I love when you pop back in!

I'm a mixed bag of feelings today, to be honest. I'm SUPER EXCITED for progress. I'm anxious about the details and workmanship being correct and top quality. I'm sad to see how much SMALLER my pool looks now that I can no longer see through the rebar. Silly, I know.
I'm not upset by the condition of the yard but hubby keeps telling me what a muddy mess it is right now. I keep telling him it will get worse before it gets better.
Having been working so much, my pantry is bare. No goodies to offer except accolades of a job well done.

You need to show us how your yard is shaping up for swim season!

It wasn't until after they left that I saw the actual height difference of the spa benches. I hope it's enough to keep me from drowning ;)

Love how my stairs turned out! A good consolation for not being able to use Helen's steps. Special shout out to Suz and Helen for the idea of low step heights for short people with a history of knee issues!!

Fantastic!! Just go in and sit down in the spa and you'll know immediately how it will be - tile will go up to or possibly just above the top of the gunite (depending on how much mortar is used to level the bond beam)...and water is in the middle of the tile.

Corner hot tub step will be nice if the spa gets too warm but you don't want to get all the way out.

So, I just noticed something but I'm not sure if it's a "thing" or not.

In post #826, if you look closely at the near corner of the spa edge there is what looks like a gap. I just went out and got a close up view. It is a 2" deep void. I know that there's rock and mortar and plaster that will fill cracks, but is a 2" void a problem? I hope not.... I did send pictures to my PB though.

I'd love to hear from our experts!

I'll probably climb in tomorrow and check out the seat height. The funny thing about that step is that It's really not necessary. They didn't want to give me 3 different seat heights so I asked for that step intending all along to use it for a cool off seat. There's ways around almost everything if you try hard enough ;)

I'm trying so hard to balance life - "Suz, you have one hour on the computer each night or morning, then you must stop!" I just finished my hour researching washing machines ( old one is terminal, cell phone died last week, leak in the closet from the shower - retile the 27 yo shower-, recliner handle broke off, physical therapy 3 times a week, Nick 'must' go to Half Price Books each day this week - about 7 in the Houston area- to the daily percent off sales. And people wonder where I am????)

Your pool is fabulous! Oh my, oh my! I know I've missed so much of your details along the way - I had no idea all the goodies you have incorporated! I love everything about it, truly I do! Of course, you know I checked out the steps first thing. They are beautiful! You are going to love them. I bet you'll be surprised how many people will comment on them. I've been surprised at how even young 'able-bodied' men and women like them.

Your spa is awesome! Lot's of fun things going on in it. That infinity edge is going to look amazing. I like the deep part of the pool in the middle. I think that will give you guys some great versatility for sports, etc. And you and grandkids are going to enjoy the bubble shelf. It's a great size. I think it will be used a lot.

I'm not an expert, but compared to my gunite job, yours is much cleaner and smoother. It looks like the crew took care with their work. Except maybe for the gap. I can't give any opinion on that, except I would want it filled in before plaster. From what several of the guys on my crews said, the plaster might be enough. Looking at the work your crew did today, my guess is that one of the guys made a mental note to get back to that spot and fill it in. Then..... got distracted and forgot about it. They just seem too careful about their work to leave that there. I'm sure of one thing - either that won't be a problem as is or it will be fixed!

I tell you what, Denise, you did your homework with your design and everything. It's paying off, too.

Time to fix a cool drink and do some sun bathing on the bottom of your pool!!! You can call up people and tell them you're already in your pool! Won't they be surprised!!!

Suz- thanks for the sweet comments and for spending some of your precious time to peek in here and comment. I completely understand the lack of time. I go days without responding especially when I'm working but I do try to peek in. It does make time fly- before I know it I have spent way too long in here and have done little else.

I do feel like it turned out well and that overall the gunite was top notch work. I'm sure the gap was just an uncharacteristic slip up.

Sunning in the pool, sounds heavenly!

Good luck on all your projects and appliance replacement! Come back when you can, although things will probably slow down for a couple weeks. I'm going to order my tile Thursday (!!) and, as you know, it takes several weeks for it to arrive.
