Yet another Texas pool build!

I don't know what my PB's deal is with the beads but he has poo-poo'd many of the things I've brought up during our bidding process. Now that we have signed, his latest response to me is "we will do whatever you want" when I had readdressed the type of filter I wanted. If I can get beads AND shells, I'm going for it. We have full sun so it should be pretty!

I find that PB's tend to not like things that don't make them more profit, are something they don't really do often or don't understand, or something that has had problems in the past. Beads mixed with pebbles are not that common and I did hear they had issues way back when but I don't think that is the case now. Full sun really makes them sparkle even in the deeper sections of the pool.

I read this whole thread and all i have to say is... I'm glad it's almost over for you. You got one heck of an upgrade in pool surface. Thank God you got your glass beads. And I'm so glad I'm not your wife (maybe you should be  ) cuz I'd have that pool builder filleted open n wishing he were dead. Oh God... I can just see myself in the show room waiting on the first soul to walk out from behind the counter.

Nearly lost his other big toe and had a blood infection. He is finally healed up after several months off his feet and in a special boot that keeps tg e pressure off his big toe so it can heal. If i were you, I'd look into eating a high protein diet since protein promotes healing and you are basically healing from the inside out now.

The hose box looks like a plastic bucket. Here ya go, done. It looks like he said, I'm done with this pool, I'm done with you, I'm done with this bib. It looks horrible! I'm sure you'll fix it next summer.

I have one request though that I don't remember seeing and I do not want you doing it right now because of your foot!!!! When you feel better, can you post a pic from the bottom of your yard in the corner fence up toward the pool? I'd like to see the wall n how high it is. And what? You don't get final inspection til the rail is up?

I'll try to get a photo of it. I know the wall is about 5 feet at the highest point. They had to put up the railing anywhere the wall is over 30" which is code. So final inspection wouldn't be possible until that railing was up.

That is crazy about the toe. I think mine is healing ok just slowly. I am able to wear a normal shoe now and it feels mostly normal except for it having to be constantly taped. He said the wound could take weeks to fully close because it is deep and the skin isn't cooperating.

Casey he can take your picture when he takes mine LOL. I want one from the back of the pool towards the house. We are working on ideas for storage for his poles, nets, toys, etc that are kid proof!

Kim

I should have this photo already in the thread. I'll try to get some more this weekend. Unfortunately I drop the girls off at school before the sun comes up and then I start driving home while the sun is setting so I really don't have much light during the week since the days are so short.

That's fabulous news!!! Does that mean the punch list is complete???

I wish there is still small stuff. My deck needs cleaned and there is grass that needs to be put in place. They have the spring on the gate and the railing is up. Not sure what else they did. They definitely didn't get the punch list done before I returned as the owner had said he would. I am not surprised. At least what is left is not major. I think the last major item that I really want done is for them to come out and get the salt thing up and running so I know it works. (even though it really doesn't do much this time of the year). That is the last major thing that could have issues.

I hope your foot/toe is happy now. I bet that drive was hard on it.

Back to work---------no fun but got to pay those bills! (I go back today also).

Rail is IN?????? Is it pretty??

Kim

Yeah plus I have to buy a new windshield for my wife's car. We hit snow on I-10 just outside Van Horn Texas and while we were driving under an overpass a snow plow was going across the top and dropped something off the overpass and cracked our windshield. The good news is I was totally preparing myself for a 1k utility bill for filling the pool and having that water leak. The good news is my total bill was $475 which I am thrilled! As long as I have no other weather items like shingles coming off the house or trees falling hopefully I am out of the money hemorrhaging stage.

The railing looks nice. It is pretty simple. I would say it is a minor step up from a basic railing. The railing home builder put in our front yard is very basic. It is flat along the top with flat bases that are screwed into the concrete. This railing has posts with nice bases and caps on the top of the posts. Here is a photo of the railing my friend took (who was maintaining the pool while I was gone).

It looks beautiful, Umm! IMO it adds to the design, definitely not a detractor.

So glad to hear you are healing well! Also glad you all didn't wreck and that no one was hurt when the plow debris hig your windshield! Scary!

I like it! I love how it follows the shape of the deck so well!

Nice friend! I bet they are on your Christmas card list for sure!

Yep he is a good friend. He is a single dad so we often watch his daughter for him when he is in a bind.

Thanks I am pretty happy with the railing. I honestly didn't know what to expect. I had high hopes they would get the curve right because they made a template.

Did you drive all the way to California???

Yes from Austin to near Sacramento. We drove to Tucson the first day and then the remaining the following day. Total drive was 1700 miles each way.

Thanks everyone! As a whole I think my entire build looks nice it just was an effort to get to this point...

The railing is really nice! Looks like they did a good job on it and got it right the first time!

And that is a first for your poor build! LOL

Kim

haha so funny but you are right. Actually the plaster was done right the first time. I think there might be a few things honestly that were right the first time. The equipment was all right and the electrical (at least that I remember). The pool startup guy is top notch and seems to use real chemicals the TFP way. I don't think he is quite on the same wavelength as the recommendations but at least what he is saying for the most part isn't completely out of line and I am not stressing about having to fix my chemicals after startup.

I am just thankful I am at a point now where there is really no risk for me. Everything is done and I have all the construction behind me. Just to get a couple small items fixed and everything should be great.

Ummm SO true. There were other things that were right the first time THANK GOODNESS!

Nice to hear the start up guy is at least close on the balance of the water.

Now sit back and have a cold one while looking at your beauty of a pool!

Kim

In the end, you have a GORGEOUS pool that you and your family are going to be enjoying for years to come. All the headache and problems are now just part of the "labor and birth" story of your new baby. Congratulations!!!

Thanks for the new perspective! It's neat to see the pool looking back towards the house after all the great shots from the other direction. The wall really turned out nicely, and the railing just makes it even better. I bet you can hardly wait until it gets warm enough to swim... After all you've been through, you deserve to finally get to enjoy your gorgeous oasis!

Thanks! The more I am out there the more I like how everything turned out. It was a tremendous amount of paver/wall work so I appreciate that.

Thank you!

Working on ideas for pool tools and toy storage. I have cute ideas!

Kim

I can't wait to hear. My first thing I am going to try to do is run conduit and wire another outlet from my equipment subpanel to one of the deck pillars. Plus I want to hook up some outdoor lights on the deck posts or bottom of the deck so I can light up the area some at night. I am reading about the relays and I think it is doable.
