Another Pool Build in Cypress, TX

I just spent some more time bonding with our pool. She really is a pretty Starship!!!

Spool, looking at the tile (and in the shade), I couldn't tell any difference between tiles set with white thinset and those set with dark grout. That surprises me a little.

I set up the bench tiles 3 different ways (my apologies to those of you who are sick of this....).

Option 1: 14 tiles

Option 2: 11 tiles looking down

11 tiles looking up

Option 3: 9 tiles looking up

9 tiles looking down

Of course, none of this will MATTER if the tiles don't stick!!!! Grrrrrr.

How about I'll pick up the Hobby people and y'all can pick up the IAH people? Deal?

That's a TERRIFIC deal! So simple, and yet my befuddled mind this morning didn't even think of that!!!!

In my opinion, less is more. Less to go wrong in the future and more elegant looking. That's why we only went with four on our sunshelf. Lookin' good kiddo...but dang...get some water in that so you can move over to the testing and balancing forum and enjoy all of that work. ;)

ITR: Thanks so much! I know, I know! I want water too!!!! I'm getting more impatient. I was a grumpy Suz yesterday, and today isn't starting off any better!!!

I like your thinking on the tiles. I also like the fewest (9). I did try it with 7 tiles, but for my tiny little concern over safety, I decided not to make that an option.

Thanks,
Suz.

Please do! Posts are always more interesting with pictures. As far as safety, definitely something to think about. Also, you may want to move the diamond on the rounded corner to the center of the corner (if that makes sense). We didn't do that in the spa and ended up asking the tile guy to chip it off (prior to plaster) and re-lay it. Jan has an amazing eye for details...much more than I ever do. :)

Too much trouble when I can fly SW Suz...sorry. :D

Since we are on Houston traffic now, I used to stay in Sugarland all the time. I'd leave hobby at night, drive straight down some road to the tollway and on over to SL. People at that office would say...you drove through there AT NIGHT!!??? Are you CRAZY?? I'd just say yea, I guess so...

Did that for about five years. Never a problem. :goodjob:

Suz, you buy, I'll fly, and rent a car. How's that grab ya? :jocolor:

Oh, yeah, and see what it looks like with one single Diamond on the "pony step". We did that one ours (to the very left of the picture): IMG_3380_1_zps1a75ec4e.jpg Photo by Th33nforcer | Photobucket

Here is ITR's step trims he mentioned! Love 'em! And I love the name for the little step - Pony step! My new name for it! Thanks ITR!!!

I think option #2 works better with the wall above it. Option #3 looks sparse in comparison to me. :)

Now, I think you're right!!! I'm a mess and worse today than usual. I guess I'll see if any more weigh in on this critical issue....

I like the 11 tiles, but I would put a lighter color on both ends, the dark one seems to get a little lost in the shadows.

That's a really good point. Understand this will change a bit when water is added and your plaster is done. The surrounding around around the tile does affect the perspective of how light/dark the tile is. Not to make you go through a whole lot of work, but do you have a sample plaster tile you could lay each one on to see what the effect is? Also, you may want to take some pictures when the area is shaded or closer to dusk.

This is fun...I was the one running around and adjusting/trying different things when Jan wanted to see it a different way. It's nice to see someone else going through the same thing. Ha!

Oh boy. That sounds like it has potential. And, if they are spaced out a bit, there might be 3,4,5? that could be diamonds on the Suz stair as well. I am going to have to scroll back through threads to find a pic of all the ledges, stairs, benches etc. To try to get an overall shot.

Suz, You have so many great features, it is hard to remember the forest for the trees so to speak!

Another thought. Are those shimmery squares similar enough to the cute odds shapes on the ledge that you could sneak 1 square between each strip? And if so, would that allow you to have one extra strip of the cute odd shapes to use on that tiny Suz step?

See Suz, you are already getting your exercise from the pool, even without water.....

I can't believe I missed replying to this post!!! Well, knowing myself, yes I can believe it...

This is great! When you mention the Suz stair, do you mean the little step out (now referred to as the Pony Step)? Or do you mean my spiral steps hugging the spa? (see how little it takes to confuse me???)

If it's the spiral steps, I think I will stay with the 2 diamonds on each step. My son, Nick, said he liked it best with just the 2. Mostly on the step/bench trims, he has had no opinion. But he did on that. And he had a different idea for the Shell Beach trim on the sun shelf which I vetoed. (in our room-mate agreement, we have a veto clause..... when we feel strongly against something the other wants, we each have the power to veto. Usually that is used only for songs on the radio, and I might add, we almost never use it there, either.)

Now, as for the little step out - excuse me, Pony step, ITR just sent a link to his Pony step. I might try that in a few minutes.

And using the 2x2's in between each Shell beach strip would work, I think (really, these tiles are all so beautiful, I think you can do almost anything with them). But to me that would give it a very different look. I was able to chat for about an hour with the designer/owner of the LightStreams glass. He talked about how he came up with the idea of the Shell Beach product and what it meant to him. I loved the story about how he wanted them to look like shells washed up on the beach - a favorite childhood memory of his.

And as for exercise.... You are sooooo right! I've been more sore since going up and down the pool steps. And yesterday, we had to come in the front door. The front porch has a few high steps which have been sooo difficult for me these last 4 months. And I popped right up - almost no trouble at all. I was shocked. Give me a few months in the pool, and I'll be traveling all over the place. But wait a minute.... then I won't want to go anywhere!!! I'll want to stay at home in the pool. Well, maybe I can get back to my passion of gardening and doing my own handyman work around the house!!!!

Thanks Ascew! You are a genius! And if I can't use an idea, please don't stop sharing them with me!!!
Hugs,
Suz.

PB called and said he's sending over someone to install the trim tiles. I assume he means today, but one never knows.

Here are a couple of photos with tiles on the Pony Step. If I use any on this little step, should I mix the colors like I did on the bench, or use all the lighter/brighter aqua tiles? Would someone please come and take over this while I go on vacation!!!!

Another with the bench:

Thanks.
Suz.

PS. Ascew: I changed out the dark tile on the right end of the bench to the lighter aqua tile.

You ARE kidding me, right????? No, I don't have that many samples of plaster, and No, I'm not going to do this all over again at dusk, and Yes, I'm almost to the point where the tile guy can do whatever he pleases!!! I'm sweating buckets now, and I may not walk the rest of the day!!! Lol!!!

I thought about asking my son to do all the different layouts for the tile on the bench and steps. But, as easy going as he is, he does have his limits!!! That would be one!

You're a good hubby to do all that for your wife!

Ha! I'll tell her you said that.

BTW, that last picture you posted with the bench looks perfect...except...measure the space between each tile if you want them that way. That was the last step I did to please Jan. ;)

Patrick, I saw how you slipped the "Suz buys" into your little jingle..... Very cute. If it's cheap enough, and if you meant YOU rent the car, then we might make a deal! How many in your party, please? I have to check availability of rooms! Lol!!!!

I don't know when you were doing your five years of driving the Hobby Hood. Now days, I wouldn't drive there at night unless I was "packin'". I won't be driving around there at night. I know, I know, the odds of something happening are low, but I like those odds to be almost zero!!!
Suz.

Shhhhhhhhh Martin it is more fun like this! hehe

Suz, I like #2- just right. Not too many, not too few JUST right!

Love the Suz step aka pony step like that. I would measure to make sure they are "even" with each other.

Kim
