1963 pool resurection

Do you have yours plumbed like that glock?

No, unfortunately my pool got neither a building permit nor plumbed to drain. Technically, its not legal. But, being an above ground I don't have a main drain so I can only drain it with the pump so far and that leave alot of water in the pool. I do have a long flexible hose that will reach a cleanout in my main sewer line (in the front yard) and that with a sump pump will drain it if the need should arise. I have thought about making it right by bonding it and getting all permitted and plumbed correctly but I really am thinking of taking it out and going with an inground soon. Until I decide on that I am not doing anything that will cost me money just yet.

I drain to soaker hoses in my yard.

I see nothing wrong with draining to the sewer except the cost of the trench. But there are ways to cut that cost. Technically you may need a permit to touch your sewer line. Some cities require a permit for everything. If you get called on it play dumb say you thought it was part of the pool permit.

It's really a very simple process. Finish the concrete smooth then throw salt chunks down all around press in if its kind of set so the salt is in the top part. Then let it set.
When you hose it down later the salt desentigrates and leaves a cavity.
Voila. Salt finish. Can't imagine anyone not bring able to do it. It's easier than broom finish if you ask me.

You know what? I would buy a bag of cement and some rock salt. I would find a place I wanted a cement pad. I would experiment and see if I could do it on my own if this is something I really wanted.

You should have seen all of the different ways I tried when I set out to do the finish coat of drywall on our pool house. See other than my husband helping me hang the upper parts of the drywall, I put it up, taped and mudded, AND finished it all on my own! I ended up using a a 3" roller to do it! I only meant to use it in the corners and where walls met and such. I was going to use a larger roller for the main part BUT found it was harder to handle due to the handle and such. 750 sq ft of drywall using 3" rollers!

Thank goodness I am a teacher and have the summer off to do stuff like this!

Hey mark (mas985),if you're out there, do you think you could explain or diagram how the bypass valve for the 3" jet spa return works? I am going automated with the easy touch 4 and will add solar later ( have pipes in now though) and am going to be hooking up equipment and plumbing this week. I'm trying to keep it as automated as possible and don't want to miss anything.
Thanks

Well pb is now trying to charge us extra to install benches in the deep end. It's been part of the build all along but apparently never got written into the contract.
He wants an extra $1600 for 2 swim out/ love seats approx 6' long each on either side of the deep end. Depth is around 9' and we have 3 kids ages 5-10. One of which is a foster child. I mention this because dcfs has some pretty strict safety rules.
Anybody know if there is a code that would require some sort of egress in the deep end.
We are not real happy about this as we feel it necessary but if he wanted extra money for this (or anything else) it could have been brought up a long time ago.
Not cool. Especially since I have done all the electrical work including materials, played gc when he was nowhere to be found and let him off the hook for many things that were in the contract like a pressure side cleaner, auto fill about 1/3 of the concrete work and a drain he forgot and more. Not to mention I'm supplying the safety fence and building the equipment enclosure myself as well.
Ok. Done venting for now.

Time to push back. He is seeing what he can get from you without you "blinking". It is time to "blink" as in say NO! It is part of the plan as it was set out and it WILL be done at the cost already agreed on.

Hugs!

Kim

we had quite a few things that were discussed, in emails, on the computer renderings, but not in the "official site plan" that the PB and contractors were using. Of course there was never a step in the process to allow the client to review the site plan.

Tell him if he would prefer to stick to the original terms of the contract, he will have to put in the drain he forgot, add an auto fill and pressure side cleaner, also you will be billing him for all labor or materials you have supplied......or he can just add the benches.

I called him back about it yesterday. He didn't answer the phone. No surprise there, I knew he wouldn't. Communication has always been lacking although we have had several conversations about it.
I left him a text message offering a peaceful solution where I would split it with him. In other words, I will pay for one but not both. Sounds fair to me and in my opinion, generous on my end. He still hasn't responded. That was at 10:00 am yesterday. Nobody showed up to work yesterday although during our conversation the previous night he told me his two best plumbers would be installing the equipment. ( he only has two by the way)
Im not sure at this point if he is going to do it or not.
I'm fairly certain that he is shifting money from job to job to keep things rolling. He has been dishonest about equipment and told me a month ago he had it at will call and could pick it up anytime. He has since brought it in piece by piece and has asked me several times for part numbers which clearly tells me it wasn't ordered previously. He has yet to bring my 5g color intellibrite lights for pool and spa which is around a grand. Likely why he wants more money to get them. They have been paid for on my end. In fact we are at the point now where payment is down to $2500 and he still has to hook up gas, equipment, set accent/ safety tiles on stairs and benches, build deep end benches, all jets, pool fittings and plaster. He is also supposed to have a pentair rep out to dial in easy touch automation and pool start up.
If I wasn't so deep into him, I would probably just fire him. If he doesn't come through on the benches I will offer to contact the state contracting board for arbitration which should light a fire under his butt. They can freeze his contractor license preventing him from doing any other work while under investigation. Or I could just finish it myself and send him the bill. Hopefully it won't come to that.
Let's see how it plays out.

CSCLB will just talk they rarely do much in my experence.

You should have yelled about this a month ago when they did the gunite for the spa and floor. This will slow down the plaster work.

Try talking to him. Send him a letter showing the swimouts were included in the original price even if not on the drawing.

I did yell st him a month ago.
They are on the drawing.
He still hasn't responded to my message and nobody has been over to do the work he said they would have finished this week.
Side note , I talked to the company who makes the tile that we used and they said it requires a certain type of thinset to be used because it is glass and can't have water for 21 days after. I'm certain he didn't use this. They said it is likely that there will be problems down the road if not.
Whatever. This guy needs to just get his butt over here and do the work he has already been paid for and stop whining. I have deleted more things from the contract than added. He should be giving me money.
