How much diclor equates to "stabilizer" in the pool math calculator?

Hi, just re-filled my 375 gallon hot tub and not sure how much diclor to add to get to 30 ppm CYA. The pool math calculator indicates I should to add 1.6 oz (volume) of "stabilizer" but not sure if "stabilizer" is CYA or diclor? I'm using Clorox xtra blue shock which the label indicates is 72% diclor. Assuming diclor has 9 CYA / 19 diclor, should I be adding...

(a) 1.6 oz CYA x (19 diclor / 9 CYA) x (100 shock / 72 diclor) = 5.7 oz shock?

or

(b) 1.6oz diclor x 100 shock / 72 diclor = 2.2 oz shock?

or

(c) some other forumula?

FWIW, I measuered my shock both by weight and volume and it seems weight and volume are pretty close, so not worried about that aspect, just not sure how to translate "stabilizer" to shock.

OK, sounds like formula (a) above would be correct. Just trying to figure out how much Dichlor shock to set aside before switching to liquid bleach per the Dichlor/Bleach method. I don't really want to test CYA levels, seems easier to just measure Dichlor shock in advance and stop using it once the pre-measured amount has been used up.

Help me understand. How many oz of Dichlor does it take to get to 30 ppm CYA? Getting ready to do my 4 month purge. I’m adding the Dichlor to get my CYA to 30 and then switching to 10% bleach.

Go to the pool math calculator and enter your hot tub volume to figure out how much CYA "stabilizer" to add. Read the label on your dichlor shock to see what % is dichlor. Assuming formula (a) above is correct:

Shock to add = CYA (per calculator) x (19 / 9) x (100 / % Dichlor)

Does it really matter? To get CYA levels to 35 ppm that's less than 6 oz. I doubt it's enough to stain anything.
If you have seen the things we have seen related to metal staining, and the damage and actions required to recover, you would give yourself the same advice...

This is not how it works. You do not want to add all the Dichlor in one go. You need to maintain proper FC for your CYA. Add the dichlor over a period of time, while maintaining proper FC for your CYA (FC/CYA Levels) until CYA gets to target.

If you add 3 ounces of Dichlor to a 345gallon tub, you will raise CYA by 33, but it will add 36ppm of FC, which is way beyond SLAM level. This is not a safe practice.

I would recommend you read:

3oz dichlor will raise FC by 33, CYA by 30, lower pH by approx 1.26 and add 27ppm salt in a 375 gallon hot tub.
Do NOT add that much at any one time.

Use PoolMath or the "Old PoolMath Webpage" at the bottom of any forum page. Set 375 as size, scroll down to "Effects of adding chemicals", enter quantity in oz and dichlor as chemical.
